Review of a Casio watch on Amazon:

Talk about style... this timepiece has it all. My parents gave me my first F91 as a schoolboy but I never fully appreciated its unique blend of under-rated retro style and charming character. My timepiece acquired legendary iconic status amongst my schoolfriends after surviving multiple attempts to destroy it.

During one notable double chemistry lesson we managed to take off the screen using pencil-sharpener blades, we then stabbed the display with our compasses before setting the watch on fire over a bunsen burner.

To my amazement the F91 continued to function as normal.

I now consider my F91 or Freddie as he likes to be known, to be my best friend.

There is a discussion on Facebook as to whether Number 19 is actually correct .... I think it is but my sister-in-law's brother (not sure what relation to me that makes him) thinks it isn't.

He claims it should be 13 loaves because in programming each step is separate and the second doesn't supersede the first or something.

12 loaves seems logical to me .....

Number 5 is my favourite, but I don't understand Number 12 :(

Number 12 is like to old "There are only 10 types of people in the world - those that understand binary and those that don't".

Programmers generally work in either decimal or groups of bits (i.e. binary). But writing stuff in binary is a long way of writing stuff, so they tend to use octal (base 8) or hexadecimal (base 16) as it's easy to convert. So, 25 in decimal is 31 in octal... and 011001 in binary and 19 in hex.

So Dec 25 = Oct 31 = Hex 19.

As for the bread on, it depends how you read it and programmed it. It could be either. This is how bugs start... imprecise specs! Personally - I'd say it was 12. She said get 12, not 12 more. So it would be:

[pre]getBread() {

noLoaves = 1;

if (eggsAvailable) {

noLoaves = 12;

}

}[/pre]

your sister-in-law's brother definitely overthinking it Sue, to pseudocode loz's example for non geeks. it's about transcribing instructions literally

shopping_requirements = loaves x 12 if eggs_available else loaves x 1

?Look, I?m sad about a Gwyneth and that, but at the same time I?m excited about the bright future I have full of steaks, burgers and kebabs.?

?Oh God, barbecues ? I can have barbecues again!?

Two CD reviews from this month's fRoots:

1. "Its self-composed tunes are about as memorable as the last day it didn't rain and are played with all the nous of a brain-dead sheep."

2. "Horribly-toned accordeon with plodding bass notes and frenzied uilleann pipes conspire to murder Irish traditional music with the assistance of a homicidal cittern player. Truly, truly awful."

    • I’m currently conducting exploratory research into menstrual health education in UK secondary schools and would really value the insight of PSHE leads, Heads of Year, or pastoral staff.    The research aims to understand:   How the menstrual cycle is currently taught within the RSHE framework Where schools feel confident — and where there may be gaps Whether students are taught and  asking questions around the full menstrual cycle, symptoms, wellbeing and conditions such as PMS/PMDD or endometriosis How schools support students in feeling empowered to understand their bodies and seek help appropriately Whether education around nutrition, lifestyle, and menstrual wellbeing is currently addressed   The long-term goal is to explore whether there is a need for additional, age-appropriate, medically informed support on the menstrual cycle.  I’m not selling a programme and there is no obligation beyond a 30 minute informal chat online (Unpaid). All conversations will be confidential and used only to inform the research. If you work in a UK secondary school and would be willing to share your perspective, I would be extremely grateful to hear from you. Please comment below or email me [email protected] Thank you for the vital work you do. Best wishes, Emma
