I don't know any other unisex hairdressers round here. I'll probably go back to Jazz Barbers or the little barbers opposite Sainsbury's in Forest Hill who'll do a dry cut for ?9.

GK Barbers on Melbourne Grove will do a dry cut for ?10, which is ?2 cheaper than Roche.

Noooo.... I've been going to that barbers since I was a kid. I still call it Seegars even though Roche took it over more than 20 years ago. I'm guessing Mr Roche is retiring? Hope it stays a barbers.

Roche had been there for years, according to my mum he just said something about cash flow. I wonder whether the lease was up and the landlords hiked the rent.

My partner is refusing to believe that Roche's is closed . He had his hair cut there as usual last week . He's in denial I think .

Same here, my dad used to take me to Seegars when I was little.

Roche had the place refurbished a couple of years ago, which may have caused issues with cash flow. He's also had increased competition from further down LL from the barbers opposite the old police station and Jazz Barbers.

Incidentally it appears that Badger Bakery, which is managed by Hirst Bakery has it's lease up as well.

Very sorry to hear about the closure of Roche. However, they've had easy money from me in recent years because I'm severely follicly challenged! Seems too much of coincidence that the caf? next door has also closed at the same time. I assume that they have both suffered from the outcome of rent reviews by their landlord, or their leases have expired, or something like that.

I had my first portable tv from Segars. It was the place which introduced me to electronic goods as a child. Also bought portable radios from there.

Roche appears to be the victim of the gentrification which is spreading further down LL.

On a positive note, the Rajput Rowing Club (or similar) has opened, the old French place is being done up and the Plough looks better than it ever did. The butcher's shop is still there, as is the framer's - both are relatively newcomers. Not sure the gentrifcation angle can be blamed for the hairdresser's demise?: perhaps he was simply retiring.

The boss gave us very little notice he was retiring, and I do not know why he did not advertise that he was closing, not something I agreed with at all.

That's rather disappointing and upsetting, Jeanette. Frankly I'm surprised as the boss always seemed to me to be a decent geezer. But of course you may have a different take on this.

He may have some pride and not want to admit publically that it was to with cashflow/rent. I don't know any details, but I suspect it wasn't something he'd planned.
