Robert Poste's Child
No, but If you haven't tried them the ones from the Blackbird bakery are even better. KidKruger
Try pie lady on Northcross Rd market, she makes good sossi rolls. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/45393-east-dulwich-deli-sausage-roll-recipe-needed/#findComment-754191 Share on other sites
Mustard
I think those were generic sausage rolls supplied by someone else and baked on the premises. I have seen them at other delis. Was told the pork was Gloucester Old Spot Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/45393-east-dulwich-deli-sausage-roll-recipe-needed/#findComment-754203 Share on other sites
edcam
They were definitely better than the ones from Blackbird. Those are good too though. Whittler
The Butchery in Forest Hill (opposite Sainsburys) make their own, most excellent, sausage rolls. Highly recommended. Seabag
Try Ginger Pig at Borough MarketThey make sausage rolls of some distinction Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/45393-east-dulwich-deli-sausage-roll-recipe-needed/#findComment-754310 Share on other sites
Robert Poste's Child
Ginger Pig ones are too lardy for me. They give me that urge to rub my face on the carpet like dogs do.Blackbird on the whole I avoid after a bad stomach upset a few years back but the sausage rolls are about the right balance for me and they have apricots in which are a nice touch. Robert Poste's Child
Wm Rose does a very nice pork pie but no sausage rolls. A gap in their product range I feel.Though my opinion re the pork pies was dented recently when I went to my sister's local (non-organic) butcher in Finsbury Park and they had exactly the same ones. KidKruger
They do sausage rolls and always have, no gap - unless the ones I've been buying regularly for years are really salads masquerading as pink meat in a flaky pastry.Perhaps they'd sold out on the occasion you tried. LadyNorwood
Speldhurst sausage meat is the best if you're making your own (tricky to find though)... Drive down to Speldhurst on a nice sunny day and stock up - they do delicious chipolatas at Christmas. Mustard
The sausage meat at Flock and Herd is good. Or buy the many flavoured sausages they do and take skins off. They use a mix which they then flavour differently depending on the type. Think they won a sausage award recently. Robert Poste's Child
Maybe I should give them a call and ask them to pop a couple behind the counter till Sat in case there's a rush on now you've given them a recommendation. Do sausage rolls count as charcuterie, I wonder? Maybe more patisserie. If a labradoodle's anything to go by, I suppose it would be patuterie. KidKruger
Foreign jargon is not applicable to sossi rolls, clever clogs. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/45393-east-dulwich-deli-sausage-roll-recipe-needed/#findComment-755274 Share on other sites
