The French House

Recommended Posts

We popped in today. Thought it was very reasonably priced - OH opted for a nice tarte flambee and I had a salad. I asked for some bread with the salad as I was worried it might be a little on the small side considering the ?8 price tag- in the end it wasn't needed as portions were very generous but was eaten nonetheless because it was so tasty. We also had some coffee (which I can confirm was also good, although not sure yet if it beats ToastED) and some delicious wine. We will be back and look forward to bringing our French friends as we know they would love the atmosphere and the food too. What a wonderful addition, and we wish the best of luck to Audrey and her team.

Finished up the afternoon with a trip to la cave de Bruno for a refillable bottle of wine then sat with a glass of it in the park. What a wonderful place we live in!

I like it. They've put warmth and some cosiness into this space. And it's rather quirky but in a good way. Nobody can complain about the menu prices. The tarte flambees and salads make up most of the menu but thats great for more relaxed dining spot.

Completing your authentic South London French experience with a trip to Cave de Bruno was an excellent call Karackers - I did just that last night. He has a couple of great imported champagnes that cost less than the branded crap all the Brits seem to buy. He's also a nice guy.

Anyway - good luck to The French House.

We went in for lunch recently.

Really like the vibe and the food, but I had tartine (a tartine? The posh cheese on toast, anyway) and though it was absolutely delicious, I thought the portion was quite small, and I was still hungry afterwards.

Maybe I'm just a pig. Or maybe I should have had lunch earlier. Or eaten breakfast.

Next time I will have one of the tarte flambes, which look wonderful.

The beer was good too :)

Jeremy - yes its basically a menu of cheese on toast and three nice salads. And a great French onion soup.

Tarte Flambees, I've since discovered are like ultra thin (5mm) French pizzas without the tomato. Then they also have big slices of toasted sour dough bread with French cured sausage, cheese leaves and shit.

The beer? Well that was the only thing I found odd. It's nice but all from Camden.

Finally popped in tonight for the first time with my brother. What a fabulous addition to the Lane. Food, wine, music and service was absolutely superb. The staff are really lovely and such a great vibe in there. Definitely going to be a regular haunt for me now. Love it.

    • Thanks all, our hope was (despite the diminishing estate) he would get on with it.  Progress is glacial, it's been two years since probate was granted, that's two cold and damp winters with no heating, and not surprisingly a pipe burst. He's blames the issues on the estate agent, who separately had a dispute with him, he had a wobbly when one of the beneficiaries spoke to the estate agent.  Separately he said it was the family's fault for letting the property get into a poor condition.  It was dated, but certainly not in poor condition. There are two five star reviews on Google, and five one star: ** WARNING** This solicitor firm has to be one of the worst I have encountered. The solicitor is prehistoric in his practices and will carry out work at his own snails pace, the fax machine he uses gets turned off at 2 pm and its near impossible to get him on the phone. STAY AWAY, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, check the solicitors ombudsman, this firm has previous bad practice recorded.   Disgusting under no circumstances use this solicitor. For over 10 years he has not carried out the terms of a Will he has not re-invested money but has retained it.  He writes letters which are pure "Flannel" excuses for doing nothing.  You have been warned   shocking experience, delayed the whole process, told other side solicitors to not contact him as he feels pressured etc. never use.   Not fit for 21st century. No website, no email address, no electronic transfer. Very slow, very little communication.   Was not a pleasant experience dealing with this firm
