well I liked it. do we need our sunday night drama to be all high fallutin'? no we do not. entertaining, I thought it was. yoda am i.

thought the score was a bit overblown at times though, like a lorry beeping when it reverses, to show there was SOMETHING IMPORTANT about to happen

I agree with you RosieH about the score. That got very annoying.

Also the convict guy. double annoying.

but the 11 year old was good.

it was kind of crappy but I kind of enjoyed it. It was a bit more exciting than midsomer murders which is the usual Sunday thing isnt it?

I think Survivor has been getting a bit better, but have you seen the latest 'news' from the beeb who'll be remaking The Day of the Triffids next.

What's with all this apocalyptic stuff? Is it symptomatic of a wider social malaise brought on by the recession, global warming, bird flu or are tv producers having a case of the blues?

she doesn't, as the crusty lady pointed out at the pathetic attempts at organised justice "this is buullshit", but frankly it's typical of a politicians ego to put take on imagined burdens and imagine themselves more important than they are, she's actaully just the chief executive of a small eco farm.

I can't understand why noone's made for the nearest army base and stocked up, that's the number one rule of any apocalypse, the people with guns survive. Haven't the writers read the Zombie Survival Guide?!?!

still liking her little utopia? Mind you, it's got an xbox, I might be torn between my inherent loathing of fascist regimes and my desire to play Call of Duty.

Of course, I'm guessing the likelihood of a decent online team-deathmatch are much reduced, there are days I can't find anyone playing Project Gotham at all in a world of 6 billion, leave alone 6 million.

The last time the population was that size incidentally, is around the end of the ice-age, so it's remarkable how many people they seem to bump into and jut how territorial everyone seems to be when the entire population of the UK is now roughly that of Letchworth!!

I never said I liked her or her utopia, my comment regarding the weight of the new world was tongue in cheek. I was picking up on your assumption of her political persuasion, which is irrelevant. I know it was a joke though so I'm not getting worked up about it.

I liked last night's one although the little vignette with the 2 hard geezers that the doctor dispatched was a little pointless. I suppose it was to reinforce the strength of the group.

Max is a beast isn't he?

"Willing suspension of disbelief, willing suspension of disbelief sir."

Yeah I know, although I'm a bit willing suspension of disbeliefed out after the last series of Spooks which was ludicrous even by their generous measure.

And yeah, only pulling your leg there Asset, and agree about that scene, it was almost like it was giving them something to do. I think it would have been much better if it had been a classic middle england couple a la Hyacinth Bucket, armed with scones and a cheery demeanour, admiring the state of curtains. That would have been far creepier.

You take that back about Spooks!

It was bloody marvellous and the season cliffhanger was a real "Noooooo!" moment.

And as a hetrosexual male I didn't think anyone would replace the Penry-Jones in my heart but Lucas brings a dash of of Timothy Dalton to what was a Roger Moore lead male. Oh, and, errr, that blond sort is a bit of alright.

As for Survivors....I sucumbed to the virus and gave up after episode 2. Along with 90% of the television viewing public.

Spooks is brilliant - been in thrall to that Lucas chap since he was a brooding northern mill owner (even stood by him through the grim leathery Gisbourne years). So Spooks jumped the shark some time ago; meh, tell it to Jack Bauer.

Back to Survivors, what I don't understand is why crusty lady isn't getting it on with the absolutely delicious Alan Johnson, rather than that rabbit slaying maniac?

You mean after the Harry-decapitated-at-point-blank-with-shotgun...oh no, look he's fine cliffhanger of yesteryear?

It is all a bit flash gordon isn't it.

I bought series 1 on DVD a bit ago, and the main difference is that there were more than 5 people in MI5 apparently back then.

It is great entertainment, but the daft quotient has gone through the roof.

And I'm sorry, but the final episode was one very long run down a corridor to stop [add bad thing happening here].

Bad thing could have been my hamster dying or the sky falling in; the fact that it was a really big bad thing didn't stop the endless corridor from being a bit dull frankly.

    • Per Cllr McAsh, as quoted above: “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution. " Is anyone au fait with the Clean Air Act 1993, and  particularly with the state of 'Smoke Control' law and practice generally?  I've just been looking  through some of it for the first time and, afaics, the civil penalties mentioned  were introduced into the Clean Air Act, at Schedule 1A, in May 2022.  So it seems that, in this particular,  it's a matter of the enforcement policy trailing well behind the legislation.  I'm not criticising that at all, but am curious.
    • Here's the part of march46's linked-to Southwark News article pertaining to Southwark Council. "Southwark Council were also contacted for a response. "Councillor James McAsh, Cabinet Member for Clean Air, Streets & Waste said: “One of Southwark’s key priorities is to create a healthy environment for our residents. “To achieve this we closely monitor legislation and measures that influence air pollution – our entire borough apart from inland waterways is designated as a Smoke Control Area, and we also offer substantial provision for electric vehicles to promote alternative fuel travel options and our Streets for People strategy. “We as a council support the work of Mums for Lungs and recognise the health and environmental impacts of domestic solid fuel burning, particularly from wood-burning appliances. “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution.  “This work is being undertaken in collaboration with other London boroughs as part of the pan-London Wood Burning Project, which aims to harmonise enforcement approaches and share best practice across the capital.” ETA: And here's a post I made a few years ago, with tangential relevance.  https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278140-early-morning-drone-flying/?do=findComment&comment=1493274
    • The solicitor is also the Executor. Big mistake, but my Aunt was very old, and this was the Covid years and shortly after so impossible to intervene and get a couple of close relatives to do this.  She had no children so this is the nephews and nieces. He is a single practitioner, and most at his age would have long since retired - there is a question over his competence Two letters have already gone essentially complaining - batted off and 'amusingly' one put the blame on us. There are five on our side, all speaking to each other, and ideally would work as a single point of contact.  But he has said that this is not allowed - we've all given approval to act on each others behalf. There are five on her late husband's side, who have not engaged with us despite the suggestion to work as a team, There is one other, who get's the lion's share, the typicical 'friend', but we are long since challenging the will. I would like to put another complaint together that he has not used modern collective communication (I expect that he is incapable) which had seriously delayed the execution of the will.   I know many in their 80s very adept with smart phones so that is not an ageist comment. The house has deteriorated very badly, with cold, damp and a serious leak.  PM me if you want to see the dreadful condition that it is now in. I would also question why if the five of us are happy to work together why all of us need to confirm in writing.             The house was lived in until Feb 23, and has been allowed to get like this.
