The Mediterranean grocers, real name East Dulwich Supermarket aka "Mateys", sells lots of things that the deli does but at a better price e.g. olive oils, lots of different types of rice and pasta, obscure herbs, spices and sauces, turkish delight etc. I've noticed that when the Deli has a pancetta display so does Mateys but his are half the price. They sell things that you would buy in a super market abroad such as a packet of risotto rice where as over the road you'll probably find Authentic Hand Picked Italian Rissottorini rice in a cloth bag with hemp stitching and a bow, similar contents, different price.

I wouldn't say there was a clear line between them (Lordship Lane excluded) but there is an overlap.

    • As the days shorten having evening fireworks for e.g. birthday parties becomes more realistic, the idea that fireworks is only about Guy Fawkes day or New Year's Eve is not a rule. I personally do not like fireworks, but other do, and I would see no reason to stop other's pleasure. I am sure the local Puritans will object, and there are issues about disturbing wild life with unexpected noise. But I'm in favour of simple pleasures. And many do like fireworks.

    • Most churches rent out halls for children's' parties but rarely adult parties, Christ Church only does afternoon parties,   The East Dulwich Community centre hires out halls to 9 pm only and all music needs to be on a sound restrictor as is in a residential area. St Johns with St Clements have a small hall but not sure if they allow adult parties. Nunhead Green has a newish community centre with a couple of different size halls. Most places seem to charge around £40 ph  with a deposit of £100/200 (returned if no damage or excess cleaning needed.
