Anyone else enjoying Wallander on the telly?

I started half-watching the first one and then found myself getting sucked in. Tried to play it cool yesterday but was gripped within the first few minutes. Ol' Ken does a pretty good job playing the morose cop.

Has anyone read the books? Are they any good?

We watched the latest episode, but were rather disappointed. Very beautifully photographed*, but lacking in characerisation we felt.

* Although some bits seemed annoyingly reminiscent of car ads
