I heard the one on Landells was an old bakery. Wooster and Stock called it 'The Ship' - not sure why?

I love Dulwich Library and Dulwich Hospital (heard its the last remaining Victorian pavillion-style hospital building in the UK - the Dulwich Society tried to get it listed but English Heritage said too many changes had been made to the original building).

Also like churches on Melbourne Grove, Barry Rd (as I turn into Landells Rd on the way home, the spire looks lovely) and church on Goose Green.

I used to go to that school on Northcross, it was the original St John's & St Clement's. I'd love a nose around, especially in the old bit on Northcross, which was my infant class. Anyway, what do people think of the new flats (?) being built on the corner of Underhill and (I think) Overhill? I can't make my mind up :-S

Not sure of the Underhill/Overhill flats yet but the building is a vast improvement on the derelict house.

Of course Eclair's place on the top of Denmark is the yardstick for all others to measure up against but I don't thing it counts as ED in anyone's book.

Walking round this morning i caught sight of another terrific house, it slipped my mind before - the snazzy white "stealth" house behind the Jeannie Avent gallery on Lacon Road. All the Blue Montaineers must of seen it now the hoadings are down.

That one was the subject of a feature in either The Grauniad or the Observer (I forget which) not so long ago. To me it looks decidedly incongruous just there...

The white snazzer was designed by / belongs to Richard Dudzicki of architects RDA Associates. His offices are behind the house. Apart from being a bundle of warm biking ginger love, he also did our house for us on Crawthew Grove (soon to go on t'market if your interested).

I did take the p1$s though, as he explained that he came back from his partnership doing tower blocks in Hong Kong because he was fed up with designing one box to go ont top of another... ;-)

I do like Ms Eclair's house but everytime I go past it it strikes me as being so open. Great if you are in the countryside and have great vistas all about you, but on top of Denmark Hill and people coming past on the bus looking in your windows? Yes, I am one of those who can't help having a good old nose!

I love the inside of St Thomas Moore church myself. It truely is an inspiration. The carpentry inside the confessional is particularly spectacular, in a public toilet meets a coffin kind of a way... don't you agree Mr McGabhann?

Seems to me there is a bit of a division between all the "Arts and Crafts" enthusiasts who like Victorian splendor ie, Dulwich Hospital, Dulwich Baths and the Library and the uber cool set who like minimalist modernism. Are there any other interesting buildings we should know about?

I always think the problem with the Library is the extention (on the right as you face the front door) because it simply isn't as elegant as the original building yet seems like a half-arsed attempt to fit in with it.

And i don't know if anyone else agrees but as much as i like the church at the top of Barry Road it does rather look like the owners had it clad in stone sometime back in the 70's!

I guess I veer towards Victorian splendour as I grew up in a New Town (though Letchworth at a century is the oldest new town, it doesn't do much other than first roundabouts and edwardian modest niceness) with neither.

Minimalist modernism is fine as it goes, but doesn't really fizz my bunghole so to speak. Every time I walk past the eclair california beach house I can never decide whether it's cool or pretentious. Ultimately I've plumped for both :)

Concrete house is my favourite building... as is the large Victorian house on the junction of LL and Overhill Road, its facinated me since a child.

I'm more for Victorian splendor too - life long obsession with Victorian gothic buildings and the Pre-Raphaelites. I long to live in one myself!

The church on Barry Road used to terrify me - I went to St Anthony's primary, so passed it everyday for seven years, as a small midget of a child, it's spire was quite intimidating. Looked as though it was going to tumble down ontop of me...

Gah. Not happy with the CPR/Underhill Road flat development as it overlooks our garden and is much taller than we expected and the windows will overlook our garden. I wouldn't have thought they'd be allowed to build anything taller than the surrounding terraces but it seems this is not the case. Anyone know how many units there will be?

I like the little outbuilding/stable block conversion opposite Franklins - behind the tyre shop. Was only converted a year or so ago.

And not a favourite, but certainly qualifies as unique/unusual is the house at the bottom of goodrich road (opp end from the school) which has an underground room in the front garden with a glass skylight thing (er I'm not doing a very good job of explaining this...)

I know it's in the village but anyone know about the house that's being built right next to the college gates - it can be seen from the park on the right hand side as you get towards the lake.

Maybe there is a Dulwich Village forum that can answer SE21 questions?
