Problem is Foxy, I'm already at work and have the bike with me. Didn't cross my mind this morning.

Just laid my hands on a cable, so will have a chain (HipLok), a D-lock and a cable (which I can use in conjunction with the D, to lock the saddle). I'm thinking I may just risk it.

...also just realised that I don't have any lights with me! Really haven't didn't think this through.

I think if you park your bike where there are lots of other bikes you should be OK. Obviously you can take some precautions to tilt the odds in your favour but I think it is pretty random unless you have a flashy bike being stolen to order.

I've left my ordinary bike in the street outside Kennington station for a week with a crappy D-lock and it was still there when I returned. On the other hand I left it for one night inside Herne Hill station in front of a CCTV camera and the next day the front wheel was gone.

Or just have a couple of drinks and then ride home assuming you've got lights with you? Then at least you've got the bike for the morning.

If you can find a beer that's not too high ABV-wise (the Kernel's table beer works for me) and/or intersperse with a soft drink or two, you'll probably be fine to ride home - particularly if it's later and the traffic is less heavy.

I got a call from my wife shortly after I'd left work, to say that she'd locked herself out of the house! So I ended up cycling home, letting her in and then got the train back into town. Actually didn't take too long and meant that I didn't have to worry about my bike being nicked. Next time I will plan ahead a bit better (and hopefully so will my wife).

I thought that too! Did you look at all the posts from that user name? There does seem to be theme there.

    • It very well may be the cat that lives at Neighbourhood vet?
    • He/she followed me and my friends quite a long way along the road so we worried they might be out of their catchment area. Quite dusty paws which also made me think perhaps they’d been roaming away from home for a few days. Took photos in case anyone is missing them! Very pretty, friendly long-haired black and white cat, leopard print collar, pink paw-print metal tag. They eventually stopped following us across the road from Mrs Robinson.
    • I took it to mean that he was going to present all sides of the argument (for want of a better term) rather than just giving his own opinion. I didn't take it to mean that he was calling "his own views" balanced.
    • I just did this survey. There are a number of problems with it. For example, in at least two questions you have an option "other, please specify" but there is no way to specify what the "other" is. Also, you have several questions where if you have nothing appropriate to answer, you get a statement "this is a required question", or words to that effect, so you have to put in something like "nothing" in order to move on. Can I suggest that this is likely to confuse people so they just give up half way through? Maybe you should test it out on a few people before going "live" with it?
