I like Honest better than the other three (Meatliquor, Bleecker St and Patty & Bun).

Also a fan of Five Guys, Burger Bear and Lucky Chip- but still none beat Honest for me.

Their signature 'Honest' Burger is still my favourite in London.

Might be the quality of the meat (32 day aged sirloin from Ginger Pig).

Looks like the upstairs restaurant at John the Unicorn hit a brick wall. The chef (ex-Opera Tavern) is moving on. TBH while the food was great, it wasn't really working... never seemed busy, really weird d?cor and furnishings, and possibly the wrong location.

Will be interesting to see whether they carry on down the "posh food" route, or try something else.

Doesn't give the impression outside or downstairs of being posh so

posh food upstairs wouldn't work IMHO.

There must be something to do with that space

Quite... as good as it was, it just seemed rather incongruous with both the style of the pub, and the kind of people who are going drinking in that part of Peckham (young, student/arty, clubbing types).

I suspect basic pub food at around the ?10 mark would be more popular. The upstairs area is large... maybe a dancefloor on Fri/Sat would work?

Speaking of Peckham... there's a rather unusual little place in Copeland Park called "Oi Spaghetti + tiramisu"... just a couple of tables inside, and a tiny open plan kitchen. Three or four pasta dishes to choose from - and yep - tiramisu for pudding. Very cheap. BYOB. Pretty decent.

Oh that's a shame, the food was great.

But yes, a very weird space.

A new pizzeria, brought to you by the Peddler people, will be opening in a fortnight on Bellenden Road, where the short-lived Trio cafe/children's play area was, according to the man I spoke to in there. I think it will be called something like "Beautiful Boy Pizza". Seems light and airy and roomy inside. Good luck!

Oh good... hadn't heard any news for a while so wasn't sure if that was still going ahead. Not sure the area really needs another pizza place, but I'm sure we'll be using it if the food is good.

Something is going on in the shop on the corner between Peckham Refreshment Rooms and the station. Big horse-shoe shaped bar in the middle...

I heard that the women's clothes Mrs Robinson shop (not the furnishing one) might be taken over by a new cheese shop! Can this be right??? There already is one in ED so it seems a bit brave to take that on, not to mention M&S. But good luck to 'em - it'd be a nice little foodie corner if it's true. Though I'm sorry to see that Mrs Robinson move back into one premises as I liked the clothes offshoot.

Incidentally I hope that council office rumour turns out to be true - always seemed odd that such prime retail space was used for offices. You never see anyone going in or out so it didn't really seem to justify a high street frontage.

Jeremy, pretty sure that's Ali Baba (juice stall formerly in the alley off rye lane) opening up a juice/cocktail bar.

    • Its that time of year again, past Christmas day and late delayed cards are turning up. How late are your cards arriving ?  Last year I had one delivered 4 weeks late. Can that be beaten this year ?
    • Sadly, a lot of businesses didn't invite reviews on the EDF at that time due to a number of "negative nellies" that would take delight in posting unfavourable comments, often despite never being to the business in question.  No matter how good the place was, some posters would find fault that wasn't there "don't lile the colour of the bidet set in the private bathroom, avocado 😅" Can hardly blame businesses at the time for not wanting reviews on here, thankfully that has mostly changed now.
    • Was that the Hare Krishna place? I can't remember exactly where it was (or maybe still is) but it was somewhere around Oxford Street.
    • The "for sale" section on this forum lets people offer things for free or cheaply. And the "wanted" section let's people ask for things they want or need, for free or cheaply. There are also existing schemes like Freecycle, and also local  food banks. And there is (or was) a local scheme where you can bring things to be repaired free. I think it is/was based in Nunhead. Isn't that simpler than having a barter system? You might have something to give away, but the person who wants it might not have anything you want. Or have I misunderstood how it works? I can see that offering services free might not fit into existing schemes, but depending on what they were, what would happen if things went horribly wrong eg someone wrecked your house? Sorry if the above sounds very negative.
