New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham

Last I heard it was Mrs Sida-Murray's dental surgery going in there, moving from East Dulwich Road as her lease was ending. She is going to be sharing with the dentist from Dulwich Village who is moving her practice across the road.

Finally tried Soderberg the other day. It's really nice and they have music, pizzas and drinks on Wednesday nights. Shame they pavement has been getting dug up ever since they opened. It must be effecting footfall.

I honestly felt really sorry for Adam and Cheffy over the Grove (aka Adam's Cafe). Food was really nice, as it was when it was Ciao. Poached is always busy but sometimes only a fry-up will do, especially if you're going out for the day.

Poached is less busy than Blackbird in my experience. Picks up less takeaway trade on way the station .

I heard it was a dentist as well. I stopped to chat to the builders and that's what they said.

Forest plant shop is upsizing - moving into where Luca cafe used to be, in North Cross Road. Looks lovely inside and seems to be doing coffee too. Not sure if open yet but looked imminent. Nice to see, especially with pear spring having closed recently.

Over in Herne Hill, a new Gail’s is being fitted out next to The Commercial pub opposite the station.

Gail's relies on fat and sugar - middle class McDonald's. Owned by Bain Capital - a 175bln USD investment fund. Depressing.

Not a fan of Gail's. They didn't behave too well over the Brick Bakery imo, which was a really fantastic independent.

Not quite in ED but very close, Peckham Rye. A pop up Greek cafe, "MessyMary", (situated inside "Feeling Food") oh my god the Souvlaki is out of this world! I was also lucky enough to get their orange cake, I think its called Portokalopita (I may have spelt that wrong). The queue was out of the door on Monday. I believe its closed for a holiday break for a few weeks (which should give me time to rid a few pounds) before they get back. If you are a fan of Greek food, this is defo one to try!

Bit harsh. I've always found them fine to deal with.

I do prefer Soper's, though.

Gail's is replacing Agile Rabbit, which is a shame because Agile Rabbit had great coffee and pizza, and the staff were always really nice.

Is Gail's the first ever chain store on that parade outside Herne Hill station? I think the old betting shop might have been a Ladbrokes at one point, but apart from that I don't remember any chains being there.

I find it hilarious that people accept Gails, but when Pret were opening there was a bit of a drama around it saying we should support our locals...
