Nunhead Bites

I live in Nunhead so went both days, shame about the weather on Saturday. The Twelth Night performance in the Salvation Army Hall was great, not sure I followed the story but the actors were amazing.

On Sunday the samba band were great fun and I really enjoyed the workshop, think the adults started enjoying it more than the children.

Didn't really try any of the food due it's price and the majority of it being non-vegetarian.

The chip/curly potato stall prices were very reasonable.

All the wraps & burgers were between ?5 & ?7 each which is a bit much if on a tight budget.

There was a stall selling jerk chicken, rice & peas & salad for ?6.

My daughter asked if she could just have rice & peas & salad without the meat & the guy said he would do it for ?5.

Says it all really.

Next one is 13th December-11am til 7pm Holly Grove Park www.pexmas.com or twitter @Pexmas. I was the guy with the ladder and sweeping brush on Saturday morning getting drenched, trying to clear the rain water off stall holders awnings !!!

Really glad it was enjoyed and we hope to see you all in December, all comments are appreciated-good or bad.

Those complaining about prices, these are small businesses offering quality produce made with skill and love. I don't think ?5-7 is unreasonable for a decent lunch. You won't find much cheaper of a similar quality in London. Raastawala offered a huge wrap and mango lassie for ?5. Great value.

There's always morleys over the road if you want something cheap (no disrespect to Morleys, I'll destroy some chicken with the best of 'em)!

Beards, Babies and Burgers.

And three threads on it. I'd say that's a result for the organisers. It was a good effort.

At one point there was a half decent attempt at a disco....but as one rastafarian guy said to me.... getting the english middle classes dancing at 3pm without much alcohol is a near impossible task.

I thought it was great.

I only wish I'd prepared for saturday's weather better and made the coffee talk rather than heading home early to put on some more layers.

It was great to see such a variety of stalls and wish I'd bought a whole load of things to fill the freezer with.

    • The end of a decade and a half of gaslighting, they must be exhausted. Oh boy, are we going to hear some coercive BS in the next 6 weeks. For some reason they don’t seem to be boasting about how well we are doing in education, crime and policing, fishing, agriculture, health, prisons, trade, trade agreements, immigration, transportation, utilities (including water), amongst other things. They seem to be focussing on exporting individual ‘illegal’ immigrants to Africa for more than it costs to take a journey into space. And rainbow-coloured lanyards for use within the civil service. I wonder why?🤔
    • If you have a campervan (windows all round, seats in) they’re treated just like cars - come unannounced as often as you need. So I think it’s a way to avoid commercial interests’ abuse of the service. Imagine if you provided a local clearance service, you could empty peoples gardens and houses and take it straight to the dump and have nothing to pay.
    • Gutted to miss out on the title in the end and fall down to fourth at the last! Thanks for running it - took me a while to get to grips with the format but came on strong in final few months. Look forward to next season!   JamesM
    • If you can access Facebook, there are many groups on there for different things. it may be helpful searching for groups on there. i joined a few groups on there myself which helped me with my health issues. it was these groups that made me realise I wasn’t the only one suffering with side effects & some women were worse off than me. hope that helps
