Having now been back in ED for just over a year and seen the huge changes that have occurred, I was wondering what do East Dulwichites now do to move themselves up into the true classification of middle class?

Do people still follow the old tried and tested methods of:

Join the PTA and then move up to School Governor

Join a local Police Consultation Board and then move up to Magistrate

Join the Committee of a Local Community Centre and then move up to local Councillor

Join the Rotary Club and then move up to the Freemasons

Join the local Mum's Club and then move up to the W.I.

Join the local Pub Darts team and then move up to the local Golf Club

or do East Dulwichites not bother these days and just unilaterally declare themselves Middle Class by virtue of their postcode?

Reminds me of a guy I went out with a few times who kept referring to me as a nice, middle-class girl his mother would approve of. I couldn't find the heart to tell him that he would do better to check whether being middle class was something I also aspired to, so I'm afraid he had to go.

Not quite solitary confinement, Seabag, just the back of beyond due to a work posting. Mind you, solitary might have been preferable looking back over the years......!!!!!

    • Politics is a nasty business and very vindictive at times - especially when internal party politics are concerned. Perhaps this is revenge for the leadership challenge and was being served cold. I do hope Cllr McAsh has understanding employers and can get his job back if that part of the story is true.
