Hmmm, not sure really. (I do sometimes kick myself a little)

Perhaps, I was holding out for one of these:

which one are you referring to TLS???

(yes, I know I should be working but I decided to take the day off... have been busting a gut since start of year)

andy&kez I also had a beetle, it was the noisiest most uncomfortable and dangerous car I ever had.

On motorways with the slightest crosswind it would jump into the next lane, and if you ever braked hard going down a

steepish hill you would spin 180 degrees. It did have good traction in snowy winters, but the rest of it you could keep.

I preferred the British beetle the Morris Minor, which was my first car and the only car I had with a split windscreen.

Love the old Beetle. My Uncle does them up for a living and I remember that every time we went to visit him, there'd be a different colour beetle on the drive way. Loved going down to the garage to see what he was working on. Everything came in as a wreck and went out looking pristine.

I'll continue the conversation on my own then...

CC:"Stylish and Classy, you say?"

Me: "Absolutely!"

CC: "Why Thank You, Young Man!"

Me: "Don't mention it"

CC: "In that case, I won't(!)"...

At this point TLS slinks away, head bowed, having tried(and clearly failed miserably) to offer a Young Lady a compliment.:(

ops, sorry TLS, had to pop out and live life for a bit!!! slum dog millionaire (well worth seeing if you have not already)

thanks you for your fine compliments,

stylish and classy, you know how people say they are like their dogs... then maybe, just maybe, the same applies to people and their cars... hhmmmmm, stylish and classy... I like it (enough appreciation yet? let me know if you need more!) sweet dream CC

    • Before going to Social Media it is always worth checking out the details: Southwark's spending for this year: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/council-tax/how-we-manage-council-tax/our-budget-and-how-we-spend-council-tax/our-income-and As you will see, as with most if not all London Boroughs, shed loads goes on social care and children's services.  The cost of paying for residential care, and for 'specialist schools is massive.  As with other boroughs they have been hit hard by austerity under the coalition government.  And the failure by successive governments to sort out social care.  That is a thread all in its own rights. Local authorities of all political persuasions across England are facing tough times, several have gone into administration: Birmingham, Woking, Thurrock, Croydon, Slough, Northamptonshire, and Nottingham and 11 are on bailouts.   Covid will not have helped.  Some will have made some poor investment decisions in the past eg Thurrock and Woking;  Some total mismanagement and one has been hit by historical debt through not paying their workers fairly (Brum).   Reform promise simple solutions to cutting spending.  Not that easy is it Nige?
