The original plan was for the Picturehouse to open in December. But given that there's no roof on the northern portion at the moment, surely we're looking at January or beyond. What's the latest on the opening schedule? (And please let this be a thread about the cinema, not about employment policy.)

I'd pay staff to work 24/7 to get it ready before Christmas to see that Louisa 😉

Best hit the pilates class now then. :-)

Louisa might have to MrB. I've first hand experience of working with Picturehouse and the 2 weeks over Chrimbo and New Year is one of, if not, the biggest income generating periods in their financial year. They will be pulling out all the stops to get it open to the paying public, even if it's not 100% finished. Gird your loins Louisa...

The granted planning permission 14/AP/1101 included a number of conditions. None are recorded yet as being consulted upon e.g. Cinema Management Plan as per Southwark Council website and all are required to be completed before any opening. In fact some are required before building work completes.

So a December opening does look under threat unless we see a sudden flurry of work.

Reminder, this thread is about when the Picturehouse will open, NOT employment policy (which was done to death on another thread, now lounged).

Had a look at this today, there is no way they are going to be open by Christmas, so book your festive cinema tickets elsewhere. Front doors were open and inside it's a derelict shell, steel beams on the floor, so they are still doing the basics. Also had a look at the gaping hole around the side, this is where the two main screens are going, even once the main building works are done it takes many weeks to fit out a screen. I reckon Easter at the earliest if things go smoothly...

I hope you gave them a piece of your mind - stop laughing and get back to work or there'll be no Christmas for you dossers.

I spoke to the people working on the site earlier today.

They aid mid to late January is the new date they are working towards

They added that more problems than were expected.

I could see a lot of very large steel girders on the ground waiting to be raised and placed. so even mid/late January seems optimistic to me.

James, maybe the contractors were talking about the main building/enabling works they're responsible for, as Picturehouse have their own in-house team for fitting-out the screens, and the cafe would probably be done by a specialist outsourced shop-fitter. Even so, having seen the building site myself earlier this week, I agree that mid-Jan is highly optimistic for their works, especially when you consider there will be close to a 2-week shutdown over the Festive period. I think it will be well worth the wait though...

    • I am  ill in bed with Covid. It's not that I "can't be bothered" to read things. I am feeling crap and don't have the mental  energy at the moment. I am not "brushing stuff aside and pleading ignorance." I am truthfully saying when I don't presently know enough about something to be able to comment. I have always been very careful to try to  differentiate between fact and opinion in both  my posts and other people's, and I am not clear what your point is. And I am certainly not trying to wind anybody up. This is a forum. If you don't want to respond to my posts, that's up to you. I'm not sure why you feel the need to announce it.
    • @NewWave I know how you feel. Like you, I've lived and spent prolonged periods of time in some pretty crazy places and always thought I could handle a bunch of kids. But, no - they got to me and I was shaking like a leaf afterwards. That's what age does to us.  But I did engage with them, so bear that in mind.  My advice would be to never let anything like that stop you doing the things you love. I'm certainly not going to stop using the park, there's no way they get to take away our cherished spaces!  If you see them, just change tack and keep out of their way. My dog won't even go that way again, so that's that problem solved. (If I see them again, I'm going to keep taking photos from a safe distance).
