Where to hold a 40th birthday party?

I'm organising a 40th birthday party for my husband and wondering if there are any good local venues. EDT is ?1,500 minimum spend, Prince Regent (Herne Hill) is already booked for the whole of January.

Does anyone know of anywhere that would hold around 50 people and isn't too expensive?

My wife and I had our wedding reception in early August at The Plough - our local pub.

Brian was amazing. He helped us throughout a year of organising our day. Through stresses they were always flexible and wanting to help.

We choose the Plough from the beginning because the staff were great, Brian was fab, and ultimately they wanted to make our day really special. It was also fantastic value.

You could try the Ivy House, Stuart Road, SE15 (close to the South East corner of Peckham Rye park). Further afield (and a few years ago), a few friends and I had a joint do upstairs at the Horse by Lambeth North tube (on the 12 bus route).

There's also a nice private room upstairs at The Old Nun's Head (on Nunhead Green).

We've had at least fifty people in there sometimes.

I don't know how much they would charge for a birthday party though.

The Horse on Lambeth Bridge Road doesn't charge for Room hire either! I've been to a couple of good do's there in the past.

I was just going to suggest The Ivy House. It is practically unique - would make a great talking point for your guests.

Yeah the Ivy House is great - but VERY popular. A friend tried to book a significant birthday party there on a Saturday recently, but they were booked up 6 months in advance... That said, good to see a co-operatively owned pub doing so well...

The Rosendale and the Clockhouse both have private rooms, although not sure of their pricing policy (whether any minimum spend etc)

The Crooked Well at Camberwell has an upstairs room they hire out

Prob out of your area, hopscotch in honor oak park...good venue, holds 50, beer garden, has a p.a. you can provide dj or band.good beer, good grub. You can book the whole venue for ?100 last time i checked.

Hi I had a significant birthday a couple of years back at Le Chandelier .. venue is fab, we had drinks/nibbles at the front and DJ in the back room! Back then there WAS a spend of ?1500 on the bar required but we put some on ourselves and the target was easily reached (I think there was 70-80 odd people) x

Great cocktails and food! Most of their resident DJ give u the right sound to dance!

We love the staff there too!
