All my hi-fi equipment is from Richer Sounds London Bridge branch and very happy I am with it too and as someone has already pointed out it's only ten minutes away on the train. I'd rather have one of their branches on Lordship Lane than another pointless nick-back shop.

Oxidisation, exciting isn't it *BOB* your signal never deteriorates over time because gold doesn't suffer from it, therefore your connection will be as good as the day you plugged it in, so no static clicks pops and other unwanted noize. Yippee....

How do non-gold connectors deteriorate significantly within the safe environment of, say, being permanently plugged into the back of an amp - in your front room?

Hmm... a decent pair of interconnects does make a difference to a point. Worth upgrading the cheap cables that came free with your CD player to something a bit more chunky (and dare I say gold-plated). I've never been one to spend ?100+ on a phono cable though. There's something wrong when your home hi-fi has more expensive cables than the studio in which the music was originally produced.

Dirt in the environment I suppose, but they do deem it to be true, especially if you smoke or have an open plan kitchen etc.

I know what you are talking about with cables etc. the thing is it does get to the point where you are being ripped off.

Big profit margin on HiFi leads.

That's why hi-fi shops love to 'deem it to be true' and flog you some. With gold connectors.

Oxidisation can be a problem though, Honest guv. attenuation in cable length etc.....

Indeed. It doesn't have any cables these days - on account of just being a computer, mostly.

Computers have cables Bob. But you can use the one from your kettle if you lose it.

Depends what sort of studio (and music) you're talking about. Lots of top end studios still have huge analogue desks, vintage reverb units, etc etc. And if you're recording proper music, most of the sources will be from microphones.
