"The world has really turned on him, he was the darling of comedy not long ago.

I've never been a huge fan, but he's made me laugh sometimes."

Plus anytime anyone ever sees him now is on some arena/theatre show and I don't like comedy in that atmos from anyone at all. But I saw him at the Tattershall castle a few times and he was pretty good

It's more what he stands for - more than the man himself - that I dislike. The triumph of competent middle-of-the-roadness, lapped-up by millions. Harmless but nondescript routines professionally packaged and delivered, like an M&S sandwich. The real problem is for every Michael Mac there are ten John Bishops on the way.

So very true. Hate both, never got either. Do they just define slapstick, which I also hate.

Just relieved I'm not the only one.....

Here we go - observational comedy- McIntyre/Bishop et al. Observed by Stewart Lee.

I quite like the idea of being a crusty high court judge, but alas no! Usually just watch Netflix... very rarely turn on broadcast TV, except for Cbeebies occasionally!

Jeremy I must agree it isn't a very nice area at all, and yet it borders some rather wealthy Surrey/Kent/M25 border towns. I've always found it to be a bit rough around the edges. Many of the people who live there are from Croydon and Bromley council geographic areas though, and the few I know have always refered to it as a step up from where they came.

Petrol?! Oooh we used to dream of petrol! We had to make do with Paraffin; or snort the crumbs from the bottom of a box of firelighters.

    • The Palmerston is open for meals on Christmas Day. I imagine The Cherry Tree will be again. We had a truly terrible meal there on Christmas Day last year which cost us £100 each without drinks, so I wouldn't recommend you book there 😭

    • That’s interesting, Dulwich Dweller; my 70 yr old neighbour told me 2 weeks ago that he’d left work early to go and book in person (being uncomfortable with all the online & app stuff) and was explicitly told that he needed to go away and book online. He’s not the sort of person to be insistent and, like a lot of older people, a bit embarrassed at his lack of digital ability, so he left without the appointment . This is my point about inconsistency, since his experience was quite different from yours. I’m beginning think that it rather depends on who, at Reception, you speak to on day…
