Hi,

I have been living abroad for the last few years but will be moving to East Dulwich in the summer. I don't have a good idea of how the nursery system works in London, except that there seem to be long waiting lists (!), but if possible I would like to put my son who will be 2 in September into a nursery or playgroup for 1 or 2 days a week (timings are flexible and can be full days or half days). Can anyone recommend any nice places in the area that might be suitable as I'm not sure where to start looking? I do part time work from home but the main reason to put him into playgroup is that I'd like him to have some time away from me socialising with other children. He goes to daycare at the moment for 2 days a week and seems to enjoy it.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

My son is at Ruskin House School which is Herne Hill but people from ED use it too. I like the size and especially the outdoor space plus the hours (7-7) as it allows for early starts or late finishes when needed (though this doesn't sound important for you). They don't do half days though but it is 51 weeks per year except bank holidays and a couple of training days. They tend to thin out by September as kids go off to school so you might be ok.

    • Try pavement, this is London, not the US. The Mayor increased his proportion of council tax in 2025/26 to pay for "more" haha PC's but my understanding is they were cut not increased. A rouse by the Mayor to take more and give nothing in return.  Troubling and far too common here.  Just be careful where you get it out
