I reckon we're quite short of these; but myself and Bumbalina do need to meet our chums and their kids somewhere at weekends!

I make it the following ED Pubs that welcome kids:

The Herne, The Vale

Outside ED we could consider The Sun & Doves (Camberwell), The Crown & Greyhound.... erm, any more?

The ones that don't:

EDT & Black Cherry (except mid-week afternoons), The Bishop, The Palmerston, Inside 72, Liquorice, Franklins, CPT, The Drum, Uplands

Is that fair? What have I missed? It seems that 'adults only' get a reasonable crack of the whip in ED?

Just slightly outside of ED I would say the Nuns Head does a good job of dealing with kids.

If only I could say the same about the parents ;-)

And the Magdala does a good job too I think - high chairs and that

Oh and the Gowlett I've seen many a parent (some famous) with children in tow

  • 3 months later...
EDT is a fine and dandy place to grab a meal with kids on a saturday lunchtime. I;ve eaten there with two smalls a few times and found it really friendly and good value, with good childrens food and nice stuff for adults too. I have to say that whenever I've been there Franklins has been a dream with kids. In fact, we celebrated our daughter's second birthday there and she tucked in heartily to the lamb's tongue.

In my experience the Bishop has been great. I always take Max in there. The staff are lovely and very friendly towards him. There's always loads of babies and young children in there.

On the other hand the EDT seems to have a harsh policy. The bar staff have told me it's illegal or breaks the term of their licence to have babies in there after 7.00pm. It's embarassing when one member of a group of friends is asked to leave at 7.00pm by the bar staff to take the baby away.

Found this...

"The new Act permits children on premises provided they are supervised by someone over 18 if the young person is under 16 years of age where the main activity is the sale of alcohol (e.g. a pub). Where it isn't then they must be so accompanied after midnight and before 5am (e.g. a restaurant)."

I think though that each establishment has the right to refuse if that's what they want to do, but they shouldn't claim that it's the law when it's not.

Personally I think that 7 in the evening is pushing it a bit for kids... Fine in the day time, but surely in the evening people should be able to have a drink and get a bit rowdy, without having to worry about little kids in the place.

I'm very shocked to hear that a member of my staff told you that children are not allowed after 7pm. This is in fact not the case. In fact it is not the policy of our license to refuse an accompanied child in our establishment after 7pm and you shouldn't have been made to leave! I will address this issue immediately and I assure you it will not happen again.

My apologies for this, our policy is that Parents can decide what is right for their children. EDT proudly welcomes families of all ages.

Best Regards,

Ray@edt

we too have been warned that we will need to leave once it reaches 7. This was when sitting down outside with a very young baby - at around 5pmish - it did give the impression that we weren't really welcome there at all. Having said that, it wasn't said in an unfriendly way at all - rather as a kind of passing on of the rules (and this was about a year ago).

    • Does anyone have any experience reducing the solar gain from their windows and roof lights?  E.g. using window film, low u-value glass and/or external shutters? What and who do you recommend?  How much did it cost and when?  We have a fairly standard south facing ED terrace with Velux windows (internal blinds only), a roof light, uPVC double-glazed sash windows and wooden double-glazed french door all fitted 2015ish. Trying to future proof the house against future hot summers without resorting to air con.
    • I think these kids are starting to come from the park into residential road I live of a road very close to the park and just had a kid knock on door stood with his tongue hanging out clearly trying to intimidate and his friend was laughing. Is there anything  I can do in terms of registering it with the police ?   edit - called 101 and gave a very detailed  description (sorry I’d have deleted the post  if I could !)
    • Well, he’s just turned up. 17 days.  very thin and seems a bit traumatised. Presumably been trapped somewhere.  I’d love to know where!
    • I contacted Niko based on ED Forum reviews and he lived up to expectations. I contacted him on Friday and we arranged for him to come check my faulty toilet on Monday morning. Within a couple of hours he had fixed the issue including going to buy the spare parts. He has a no nonsense approach and you know you are in good hands. Highly recommended.
