bigbadwolf
What are your thought on this subject. I'm mainly raising this as I 'm starting to get really annoyed about some people squealing to the admin when they see something they don't like. Fair enough, if someone is openly racist or posts a forumites address then thats fine but I just think people need to be a little more thick skinned. I've had the piss ripped out of me before but I don't go running to the admin. snorky
You have offended me with your broadboardbrushstrokes about thick skin . bigbadwolf
I'm going to pretend I didn't read that Quids. I've had numerous messages from admin telling me I'm about to be banned because of the supposed offense I've caused. I'd post a link to the messages but if I do that I'll be revealing my true identity. giggirl
I heard you were on a short leash for bad behaviour. Superglued to the naughty step as it were. I take your point about people being thin skinned but I think part of the problem is that there has been a lot of bad behaviour of late so patience has worn thin. Hopefully things will get back to normal now so we can all happily get back to giving each other a good slagging with no offence being taken. bigbadwolf
No way! My anonymity is what keeps me alive. There's only one person on this forum who know my real name. Mikecg
I have noticed that some of the comments you have posted could upset people that are sensative, I on the otherhand would rather say to the person what I think and then grass them up. bigbadwolf
Thats exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about Mike but you're one of the forum characters so I expect that sort of thing from you. I think the majority of the offended live in the family room. brum
I think the main problem is that the forum, by its very nature, functions using two-dimensional means of communication. This can often lead to mis-understandings, particularly since it's hard to express humour in writing. A comedian in front of an audience quickly sees which gags work and which don't by the way the audience reacts. On the forum, we don't have that luxury. Unfortunately this means it can feel like we're walking on eggshells every time we post something humourous or a bit risque. As giggirl says though, after a while people do start to understand your style of humour and so will be less offended by it. I think, however, we have to accept that some people are more sensitive than others, but ALL are welcome on the forum, otherwise it wouldn't be the great place it is. Marmora Man
There is a tendency, on the part of some, to take every opportunity to make a joke, diverting the thread into a series of "humorous" exchanges between mates and, effectively, hijacking the subject.Once in a while it is genuinely amusing - when it happens so often and by the same posters it becomes a little tedious. It may be part of the problem that Brum's identified above.EG: Tessa Jowell's post today about how to report bad behaviour on buses, the recent post about Alan Sugar and his possible mayoral candicacy. Keef
For my part, it's correct for admin to let you know if you've offended someone, but I'd like to think that admin might also say to someone that their complaint was a bit precious, and to get over it. Otherwise anyone could get anyone in to trouble. I've always felt this forum was ever so slightly over clean cut, but if it wasn't it might not be the great forum it is, so where does one draw the line? HonaloochieB
What Brum said. And in addition BBW is a Big Fat Bastard.I know him to be big, though his corpulence and legitmacey are unknown as far as I'm concerned. mockney piers
Therein lies the problem Keef. It's a tricky one ain't that the truth. I'd hate this place to be overly fussy and precious, but then erring a little on the side of caution is better than the lunatics (of any ilk) running the asylum (as we've recently seen just a bit of).I don't think every reported post is a gospel removal of said post by any stretch, but if offence has genuinely been taken, and it does seem at least a bit reasonable then they sometimes go, but sure as dammit admin team will err too.But keep debate alive keeps everything healthy hopefully and hopefully it will remain the great place it is with censorship at a minimum, but everyone realising that they have a responsibility not to personally attack or wilfully offend (though you can call me a dirty Spaniard if you like, cos I like ya!!).
