As a driver and cyclist I don't think there's a bigger pain in the backside on the road than Boris Bikes (why are they called Boris Bikes anyway? It was Ken's idea).

To be honest, ED is quite far out for this. I'd rather they spent more money on the existing (inadequate) transport systems and kept the bikes to Zone 1.

You don't necessarilly have to cycle into central London with them, more likely to the station, or high street. They have them in Putney, so don't know why ED, or Camberwell, or Peckham is too far out.

Yeah they should have them in Camberwell. Oval and E&C already have them... Camberwell is pretty close, and really needs transport links.

like the story of the Lewisham wheelie bein being fished out of the dead sea, how long until the BB turn up in forren climes ?

The existing transport systems aren't fixable without spending vast amounts of cash.

They want less cars, not more, to avoid the massive fines on the horizon for the enormous pollution in London.

They can't afford to buy back the real estate to knock down property to build new railway or tram infrastructure.

Jet packs haven't been invented.

It's 35 minutes into town on a bike from East Dulwich, less with proper segregation, and far less than that to the nearest tube.

I'm pinning my hopes on more cycle lanes and double-decker trains, like they have in the Netherlands...

Not proper jet packs that you can quickly don and nip down the shops to get a pint of milk with. Like the Jetsons.

It would be great just for cycling to Peckham Rye Station, Brixton or Oval tube, or just to the shops. We're in a densely populated area, with no high frequency tube or train service (and very slow buses). It's the perfect location for a short hire, point to point bike scheme IMO.

I was in the south of France a couple of years ago and saw one of the Paris bike scheme bikes in Nice. Bloody long ride that must have been.
