is now open.


Popped in there last night and bought some kabanos and some russian ravioli type tings, both pretty good but then I know very little about Eastern European produce apart from Pierogi dumplings.


I get the impression they are struggling for business though - the place doesn't look that enticing, due in most part to the harsh lighting which is a shame as they have a lot of interesting looking stuff for sale.


Anyone have any Polish food recommendations?

On the contrary, The Irish Shop is mostly loaded up with tat, I'd be surprised if they were still there this time next year - the Polish shop is full of things you can actually use to cook with.

I won't argue about the quality aspect - but that Irish shop has been around a long time lenk - don't see it going out of business any time soon. And I pop in regularly enough for my irish "needs"


Can't agree with Louisa's comment about service tho' (a nation is shocked!)


The service has often (not always) reminded me of why I left Ireland

lenk I think you will find the Irish shop has been around for nearly 15 years now and is still going pretty strong, so as a betting girl I would suggest that the Irish shop is more likely to stay around as an established business than one that has only just opened up.

I went into the Polish shop yesterday and purchased Polish vegetable juice, frozen dumplings and polish sausage . Was hoping they had some Rye bread with caraway (they sold this in sainsburys ages ago and some continental delis but I have not seen this around here for some time, ended up going to the Polish shops in streatham), but they only had sunflower and Rye. Interesting selection of herring and some dried fish.

No, it's an Irish shop. I don't need any Polish stuff.

I am polish and very happy that its finally open, and cant wait to go give them more business. There are many people i know here who dont mind to come with me to polish resturants from other countries. Whoever is open to new expierences and adventurous choices in polish food I recommend you to try :


- Kabanos (polish sausages)

- Ogorki kiszone (Gherkins/Large cucumbers in brine)

- Pierogi (dumplings-either with potato and cheese inside/sauerkraut and mushrooms/meat. Also sweet ones exist.

also very good to cook them and fry them with some onion slices till they turn crispy)

- Zubruwka -polish vodka made from bison grass (very good to mix with apple juice!)

- Sledzie -Herings (similar to rollmops but not always rolled-the best brand is Lisner)

- Jablko-wisna -Cherry and apple juice -from Tymbark

- Kubus -Carrot juice mixed with other fruits (either banana/orange/apple)

- Fasolka -Butter beans mixed with chopped sausage and tomato sauce- Brand name: Pudliszki Best served with bread

- Serek chrzanowy -Horse-radish cream cheese spread.


The List goes on, I will find out soon what the new polish shop has to offer but I do recommend anyone to try it.

Unless you ready to try it, and taste it- your criticism is irrelevent.

We always have Polish food in our house ( my Girlfriend is Polish)and have normally had a few dishes on our menus at our pubs.


we find Keilbasa is always a favourite

Pulpety and Bigos are great in winter


we move in a couple of weeks so im sure we'll be in very soon

Yes, good luck with the new shop K. I see that the Polish specialities rely heavily on processed and preserved ingredients, meats and alcohol, is there much fresh produce eaten?

    • Hello there, can I pls check whether anyone else on here has been affected by noise from e-bike hire companies servicing bikes overnight? I live near an e-bike parking bay and am regularly awoken at silly o'clock by the noise from mechanics chucking the bikes in and out of vans. Lime seems to be the worst offender. Please either post on here or PM me if you are experiencing similar issues.

    • I disagree with the who concept of tidying one room at a time. I find it's more effective to increase the overall level of tidy by 10% regularly, and take regular breaks.  Always straighten your bed first - your bed is your priority and your haven. Change the sheets if you have clean ones to use. 1. pick up all rubbish around the house; take it out. 2. pick up all crockery etc that needs a wash: put it all in one place and start to sort it out. Wash and dry whatever you can put away easily. Wash things by type - I'll do cups then plates, then cutlery, then pots..... 3. Kitchen surfaces - tidy things you can, be ruthless - everything is going to need a home. Sweep the floor, wipe the surfaces. 4. Pick up all laundry around the house. Start to sort it out so you are in control of it - wash types together - eg all sheets.  4. bathroom - so on..... Then, the entire house is an better environment. and you can just keep going.
