I, unusually, have tomorrow off and I thought I would partake in a bit of Train Spotting.

I have done some basic research and gotten a good solid thermos, a sandwich box for my cheese and pickle sandwiches and a heavy duty hooded jacket (with fur lining around the hood and cuffs)

I have been told that Clapham Junction Station is a good place to go but I need some advice

Where is the best place to stand to get the maximum exposure to passing trains, which platform and also are there any 'specials' due through tomorrow ?

Finally do I need a platform ticket or can I just wonder down without a ticket and possibly a note from my Mum ?

Any help or comments greatly appreciated

Excellent idea Xena.

As luck would have it I'm, also, free tomorrow and was thinking of doing some Trainspotting on The Bluebell Railway Line in parts of Sussex.

Do you want to come and compare notes?

I've got some tasty Egg and Cress Sandwiches already prepared and I can do more, if required.

For Real ... wow

What a pity I don't like Egg and Cress sandwiches, they give me spots and chronic wind

Pity - maybe another day as I have my heart set on Clapham Junction (I never thought it would happen)

Yeah! Thinking about it, me too. I've just thrown them away, which is a shame as they have all been reduced in Nettos from ?1.60 to 40 pence, each.

Maybe we could squeeze a day in anytime Xena.

I'm a Member of The Bluebell Railway Preservation Society and we catch the Bluebell Bus from East Grinstead, 12 miles off the A22, passing South Godstone, NewChurch and Felbridge en route..

Great you bring the smack and I'll bring the air pistol.

And if Dangerous Andy is available I can bring a pyschotic Scot in the Begsby mould.

It's going to be a great day.

Mind I heard it might rain so perhaps we might be better bringing macks rather than smack.

It's your day so you decide

My dad's a life member of the bluebell... maybe you three should hook up and have a delightful day... just a thought :p

I hope to see a Diesel Shunt tomorrow as they normally have a long following of carriages, each branded with different goods

I also heard that the Orient Express sometimes goes through Clapham Junction, or was it a restaurant called "The Orient Express Noodle Bar" Near Clapham Junction

What is the best way to get there ? is the East London Line working yet ? ohh the possibility of taking the number of the train I am traveling on to spot trains and to get their numbers is just too exciting for words... I hope that I have just dropped Egg Mayonnaise down my trousers and not something else.

I too have an Air Rifle, but can't see the relevance to spotting trains ? Maybe I need to take my Bulldog with me

Does it make you feel big, to mock the hobbies of others?

Actually, your posts on this matter are truly hilarious. The best comedy is always that with an original take on an original and unexpected subject. And truly, few people have trod this path before, the ridicule of train-spotters.

Looks like you're on a safe wicket here Xena, just don't mock/comment on anybody's leisure activity will you. oh no there will be no takers for that kind of stuff, well not from those big boys anyway

Enjoy your day

    • Thought others may be interested to help a local community centre help others.    My bank account offers roundup and it’s been growing all year. As well as treating myself or putting it towards a train ticket to see my family I’ve made a donation to the Albrighton. They can use donations at any time but I hope my donation will go towards the Christmas hampers.    Can you support them so they can provide Christmas hampers?   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/albrightoncommunityfridge?utm_id=1&utm_term=M22JKQb6W   A donation of £50 will pay for a hamper to feed a family over this Christmas period. A donation of £30 will pay for a hamper to feed someone living on their own over the Christmas period.
    • I've never got Christmas pudding. The only times I've managed to make it vaguely acceptable to people is thus: Buy a really tiny one when it's remaindered in Tesco's. They confound carbon dating, so the yellow labelled stuff at 75% off on Boxing Day will keep you going for years. Chop it up and soak it in Stones Ginger Wine and left over Scotch. Mix it in with a decent vanilla ice cream. It's like a festive Rum 'n' Raisin. Or: Stick a couple in a demijohn of Aldi vodka and serve it to guests, accompanied by 'The Party's Over' by Johnny Mathis when people simply won't leave your flat.
    • Not miserable at all! I feel the same and also want to complain to the council but not sure who or where best to aim it at? I have flagged it with our local MP and one Southwark councillor previously but only verbally when discussing other things and didn’t get anywhere other than them agreeing it was very frustrating etc. but would love to do something on paper. I think they’ve been pretty much every night for the last couple of weeks and my cat is hating it! As am I !
    • That is also a Young's pub, like The Cherry Tree. However fantastic the menu looks, you might want to ask exactly who will cook the food on the day, and how. Also, if  there is Christmas pudding on the menu, you might want to ask how that will be cooked, and whether it will look and/or taste anything like the Christmas puddings you have had in the past.
