Very controversial finish now with Dustin Johnson having possibly grounded his club in the bunker. Its a sandy waste ground lie, and apparently all sandy areas are bunkers under a local rule.

Great start from him - my money is (was yesterday) on Kaymer (26s stooopud odds...or at least they looked it yesterday morning), Watney, Rose and Poulter. I'd be delighted if Rory won though...even I can rise above money.

Rare for the first day leader to hold out till Sunday evening, although a very good round. Anything from -2 is probably good enough to be in contention at this stage, which probably rules out Westwood which is a shame.

I think the "pep talk" I gave Rory when I met him in Dublin recently has done the trick.

It basically went like this:

I think tears were there.

I have played in competitions myslelf, where I wanted to win so much that having messed it up you just want the world to end, but in golf you have to play through to the end. But Rory had to do it, live in front of the world.

He will come back and i feel it part of the learning curve. His interview afterwards was gentlemanly. Hats off to him.

Chris Evans talking up a celebratory party before Rory had hit a shot on the first tee, does not help the professional mood. What an arse.
