Rich, White person adopts child from an African Orphanage, removing the child from her Roots, Heritage and Culture to live a life, surrounded by immense wealth in The USA.

Is Madonna right to do this in your view, or is it an unhealthy reminder of our Imperalist past where some White people descended on and took what what they wanted from Africa?

Well I hope not, Tony.

But I'd be interested to know under what circumstances anyone thinks it's a super wheeze for a pop star to scoot off to Africa to BUY a child as a fashion accessory. Let's hope the person she pays to look after the kid comes with good refs.

No diversity here TLS.

She's publicity seeking. Why not adopt a child from New York if she really wants to help someone who is deprived. Charity should begin closer to home.

She won't be a mother to these children anyway - they will be brought up by nannies, Madonna won't be trapsing round Sainsburys on a Saturday morning with 3 kids in tow, what sacrifice is she really making, she won't have time to be a mother to them with all that touring and money making she is determined to pursure into her 50s. They will be brought up by strangers, nannies that change shifts, get sacked, get replaced, the child will not know where to look.

If you're going to buy an orphink, why not buy an actual orphink, rather than one with parents and grandparents who might, you know, care for it and miss it if it weren't there. It's not as though there's a shortage in Africa.

That said, Madonna has donated enormous amounts of money to Malawian orphanages and raised their international profile so while accusations of cynicism and attention-seeking are easy to make stick, unless we're actively doing something about the many, many deprived children in our own back yards, I personally don't think we should be throwing too many stones.

It's an expensive business, buying a kid from Africa - especially when you're a pop star.

What was her charitable interest in the place before she wanted to GET one? Around zero?

Funnily enough I can't get worked up about any of them Tony. But then it's not really about adopting children alone that gets my goat about Her.

Jeremy: Not sure about this particular kid but the parents of the last one had plenty to say

Possibly self-serving but still...

On the whole, I say: line them all up, bend them over, boot their arses and keep booting until they stop being such massively selfish pricks.

Don't know the specific details of each case: I assume Ewan spotted his whilst he was at least actually spending some time in the country in question - even if it was on a cossetted motorcycle adventure tour with posho Charlie Boorman and a backup camera crew of sixteen.

Yep, I know about that story. I can't really take what the father says at face value.

Still, doesn't mean I agree with what Madonna is doing. Hopefully she will encourage them to keep in touch with their heritage, and give them every opportunity to return to Malawi after they've had an education.

so she getting a playfriend for little shaun wright philips. having the money she has allows her to put the big finger up to anyone.

As if she really gives a toss what the plebs think............

If she wants a little black girl , she will damm well have a little black girl !!

    • Unless we don't fly I don't think we can be too critical of the authorities.
    • In 2016 London City Airport began using concentrated flight paths. When there's a predominantly westerly wind, incoming aircraft approach from East London (north of the River). When there's a predominantly Easterly wind, incoming aircraft approach the airport from the West: circling through Forest Hill, Dulwich, Vauxhall, Tower Hamlets, Docklands. This latter flight path affects many of us in South East London. https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/questions-mayor/find-an-answer/london-city-airport-concentrated-flight-paths The planes going into City are often below 2,000 ft, so very noisy. Sometimes we have incoming Heathrow at the same time, flying higher. The early flights that I hear e.g. 04:30 are incoming to Heathrow. They are scheduled to land at 05:30 but are 'early'. Apparently the government allows a percentage of flights to arrive early and late (but these are now established as regular occurrences, informally part of the schedule). IMHO Londoners are getting very poor political representation on this issue. Incredible that if you want to complain about aircraft noise, you're supposed to contact the airport concerned! Preposterous and designed solely in favour of aviation expansion.
    • Yet another recommendation for Jafar. Such a nice guy, really reliable and fair. He fixed a problem with our boiler and then incredibly kindly made two more visits to replace a different part at no extra cost.
    • I didn't have any problems with plane noise until city airport started flying planes to and from about 5-8 minutes apart from 5.30 am or  6 am,  and even with ear plugs and double glazing I am woken at about 6 well before I usually would wake  up. I have lived here since 1986 and it is relatively recently that the planes have been flying far too low over East dulwich. I very much doubt that they are headinbg to Heathrow or from Heathrow. As the crow flies we are much , MUCH closer to City Airport than Heathrow or Gatwick. I even saw one flying so low you could see all the windows, when I was in Peckham Rye Park.
