ED/Peckham Rye pub crawl - advice required!

Hello EDF!

The nights are getting warmer and longer, and I'm planning a pub crawl, playing the birthday card to keep "can't we go somewhere central?" to a minimum.

I'm going to start at Goose Green and wind my way up to Rye Lane and the Bussey Building, but thought that there would be no better place than here to check I'd not missed any favourite pubs/bars out!

Current plans are:

The Bishop

The EDT

Heading up to the Flying Pig

Then on to the Gowlett

(Skipping the Victoria and Prince Albert through fear of blood poisoning)

Up Blenheim Grove to Bar Story/Peckham Springs/Brick Brewery

Aaannd as Franks isn't open for another month, popping up to the roof of the Bussey Building (if it isn't raining)so the tourists can enjoy the view.

If I've missed an unmissable, your thoughts would be welcome!

Cheers!

I had completely forgotten about the Montpellier and really do prefer it to the FP. I didn't even know the four quarters existed (I think it's disguised a bit too well, I'd always thought it was a weird casino) but what a great place for a regroup!

I love pedlar as well but think they may not take too kindly to us piling in en masse and demanding a quick round of peckham martinis at the bar...

Depending on the date of your crawl, don't forget the new arrivals: The Hope (3, Melon Road - opening 7/5, according to its website) and John the Unicorn (157-9 Rye Lane, opening "end of spring" we are told).

Jah- this is my biggest concern.

Nigello - the hope might be a bit out of the way but I am crossing my fingers that john the unicorn will be ready. This unfortunately won't help aforementioned biggest concern.

I've never been to the peckham liberal club but have always wondered about what lies within!

Went on a stag related pub crawl a few months ago. The plan was to take in ten pubs, so I went for a half in each, carefully pacing myself so I'd still be sober enough for whatever club we ended up in. But no... 11:30pm and everyone went home. So that was that.

Always find pub crawls if over ambitious a bit of chore*. Just as I get settled, fancy another pint the cry goes up, " We are moving on" By pub 3 a breakaway group has formed and we all meet up at the last boozer on list. 3 or 4 pubs Max for me these days, with a couple of hours in one over lunch. Sorted.

Enjoy your Birthday pub crawl wherever you go KM.

*see also fancy dress parties.

Deffo avoid the Bishop. I'd probably cut out the Gowlett and Montpellier too- or end in them. After the Flying Pig go to Four Quarters (lots of fun, good music and good beer) then on to Rye Wax (basement of Bussey Building- cocktail happy hour is 6-8 I think) then Brick Brewery/Bar Storey & Peckham Springs, finish at the Montpellier/Gowlett

My housemate reconnoitred the re-reopened Prince Albert at the weekend, and now wishes to officially designate it as "our local". Worth a look.

Im thinking of coming through on Saturday* and doing a bit of a crawl...Not sure what I fancy as yet. 3 or 4 pubs heading back toward Peckham Rye...

Im hearing the New Hope has opened so may sniff that out.

*meeting an old school friend on Friday which may put paid to that though.

    • So fickle @malumbu for someone who screams out about caring for the environment. Try and keep your story straight and not get diverted by things you secretly enjot is my best advice.
    • Hello... My aunt is coming over from Spain from Tuesday 27th August to Saturday 7th September and looking for a house swap with someone who lives near Peckham Rye Park. She is looking to be in a house/flat (at least two bedrooms). You could make use of her four bedroom house in San Fernando in southern Spain (just a couple of tram stops between Cadiz and Chiclana, a beautiful area) those two weeks or at another point that suited you (as it's not where she lives)... Please get in touch if you are interested and we could chat more about it... Thanks so much... Beccy
    • Just a few weeks ago the whole area was green and a joy, now it looks a wreck. As others have said, by all means have a party but don't leave the place in this state afterwards as it spoils it for others. The idea that it is just fine to subject the same area of land to this treatment summer after summer is crazy and hard to fathom.
    • Went to some great free events in Clapham Common and in Finsbury Park.  Free fireworks at Vicky Park good too. Cost of events and cuts to budgets saw an end to most of this.  Blackheath fireworks too popular.  Parks and recreation eh?  😊
