I love the dawn chorus too and hate this day where from now on in daylight hours get smaller. However what happens here is nothing compared to the sounds I have heard from birds early morning while camping in Queensland. What amazing sounds.

That my phone lists calls I've rejected as "missed".

No, I didn't miss it. I could see it was a dodgy number and was probably going try and get me to reclaim non-existent PPI insurance or try to get me money for an accident I've not had. So I pressed the reject button so as not to waste any more of my precious time. So say "rejected call" not "missed call"!

Flies, fekkin Flies

The black ones, the blue green ones, the ones with white dots on. I HATE THEM ALL

I've a theory that they've (the flies) memorised a number of F1 tracks, and the fly circuits of these over my head, just to enrage me

I keep all things spick and span so not to attract them, but still they come, still they do their circuits, though I got my own back on some today

In a little side room to the garden they congregate the most. So I took a gas blow torch and fired it up and closed the doors and pursued them with the vigour of a MIG fighter pilot.

Of course they know to avoid heat, but eventually after a few fly-bys they get caught by a lick of flame and a satisfying crackle brings them down, though some need further attention to finish the job

I realise its a totally irrational method that could burn my hose down, but THEY'VE DRIVEN ME DO IT

Agreed... but would expand it to any passengers who don't use the space effectively and prevent others from boarding. Also people who dawdle around the platform aimlessly, getting in peoples way and preventing them from getting onto that train which is about to leave!

99% of tube passengers, then.

I had a shouter on the train this morning. Move down carriage, lots of room etc. I'm all for that and always move down. This woman though, moved into the vacant space with a massive rucksack on her back. Didn't take it off or make any attempt to clear a bit of space herself. Mind boggles.
Well its not a euphemism. Its meant to mean cheap enough for the less well off to buy and often you can get 10-40% of cheaper home on a site. . However the definition isn't clear and noone the price isnt defined anywhere. . Builders aren't building - or not building euphemisms.

    • There’s a line of stationary buses with hazards on ,from East Dulwich Grove to  Goose Green roundabout blocking traffic so it has to use the wrong lane at the zebra to cross the roundabout. No idea why.
    • Digital rubber necking ?  That's a meaningless phrase. The OP merely was seeking information.
    • Reviving this to say that Palais is now up and running.  We went to a night there yesterday.  It is a first floor bar with cocktails and space for a DJ.  That I think is intended to be a quieter space for an older/more chilled crowd.  There is also a basement club space that can hold 500, it has an amazing sound system. The communal areas are still a bit rough and ready, they still need to do some replastering and painting on the stairways and there is currently no functioning lift.   But generally it was well run and thoughtfully restored. It was good to see the space back in use and it feels like a good addition  to that end of Peckham. Interestingly, showing a shift in night time cultures, there were signs about not using mobile phones and everyone had to get a blocking  sticker put on their phone camera lens before they were allowed in.
    • Great shout. They do need the extra fat when it’s winter, but don’t use fat balls from April as they are dangerous for nestlings as the babies can choke on lumps of the fat. When it gets milder switch to suet pellets as they are harder and don’t melt (the grease is bad for feathers.
