That's the one..

:) :) :)

Apologies if I've posted this before, but the (fairly) recent mispronunciation of the word "harass" (and/or "harassment"). Michael Crawford in "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em" has a lot to answer for -oh how the audience laughed when he emphasised the "rass" rather than the "ha", but now it is commonplace.

I dunno ladynorwood.

It's a common pattern in BrE, where you have a stress shift between noun and verb, think COMpress (noun) vs comPRESS (verb); REsearch (noun) vs reSEARCH (verb).

This fits nicely into that. And it seems AmE speakers are just as confused about how it should be pronounced, so it's just one of those things I reckon.

Although, going over and over, harASSment [charges] feels more natural than HArassment, so it's an odd bod.

It was always pronounced HArass until Michael Bleedin' Crawford came along and then everything changed - it makes me want to stick my head between railings and pull my ears off!

Big, back slapping man hugs....don't get me wrong I used to like these but they are foooking everywhere now. I am going to go back to a handshake or what one of my oldest mates whose a proper geezer does which is hold your face in both hand and give you a big lippy smakerooo

It's The Sopranos effect. I still go for the handshake, only to be met with a hug. Always awkward, and this is just with my mum who I see twice a year...

Kissing's a minefield too these days. Can be anywhere from 0 to 4, so 80% chance of getting it wrong. I favour one, but only to family and close friends. I once worked alongside a very girly bunch of people who kissed and hugged each other at both ends of the working day. Even the memory jangles a nerve in my chilly English heart.

    • I haven't had any problems, except when the online  appointment system is full, but I have found if something is urgent they can fit you in if you phone. I think they probably keep a few spaces free for urgent last minute appointments, but I'm just guessing  I've found it quite convenient being able to email questions which previously I would have had to ask at an actual appointment, and I've always had a speedy reply. You can send photos as well. I don't know about forms and letters. That sounds bad. Have the admin staff changed recently?

Too new fangled for us, but my Auntie Grace down the road used to get it 😂 Well, you had to keep up to date. Sorry, couldn't resist.
