The only thing allowed to pass your lips with a pint is a cigarette (preferably unfiltered).

A lot of what people may assume to be contrived, self conscious behaviour is often the opposite - a naive playfulness, a lack of concern about what others think. Conversely, being unreasonably concerned with (and overtly critical of) what others are doing, belies a real sense of self consciousness. It hints at repression of the true self, a pretentiousness, in the literal sense. In other words, I think keekybreeks is secretly a hipster. He certainly seems to be in the mindset of a hipster. That rusk cafe for example... it could be a goer you know KB.

Have a tipple on any nearby roof terrace or in any hostelry garden near GBK when they start cooking - there is a foul smell pumped out from the age-old and rancid oil they keep using. Perhaps there is a chemical in the nuts that prevents one vomming the mouldy fries?

I know these places are really just for kids but change the oil now and again eh?

This link refers to an inspection in 2010.

Not saying the place has gone downhill in the 5 years since, or that it wouldn't pass today - just that when they fire-up of an evening there is a nasty stink coming from their chimney. Maybe it's not the oil, perhaps they burn off yesterday's meat products from their griddle and send the burnt-beefy pollution heavenwards. I just nose it smells bad.

Re-shit sparkling, I remember the first time I used a loo in a flat in Cologne to find they have that 'shelf' arrangement where things 'sit' before being flushed away and was told by mein host (titter) that it was to inspect the-... no I can't go on.

So you would sooner be

a) a hipster mate of yours

b) an internet based construct of artifice that probabaly lives in Whistable, avoids washing and shares a bedsit with 32 cats

Arf!

I suspect KB has had a career punting whatever the latest fad is to the consuming public masses and having seen it from the other side he's suitably sceptical if not a tad jaded.

On the subject of burgers, it's not news but I tried Burger Bear at Old Nunhead last night but home delivered via Deliveroo and it was top notch. Deliveroo is proving life changing.

Kitchen 54 is fab. They do a good veggie breakfast hash and an amazing mushroom & avocado sub. I've not tried their waffles because the subs are quite filling, but they look delicious.

I'm pleased that more people are getting to know about them because the few times I've been in there at lunch time, they've been empty. The location isn't that good but it's well worth a visit.

Just wanted to put a recommendation in for Byron Burger. I went to visit friends in Exeter at the weekend and they decided we should eat here. I was pretty apprehensive considering my view on GBK and the like, but I was surprisingly impressed. Thankfully I wasn't paying, and yes you get what you pay for and the food was delicious, but the best part of 14 quid for burger and chips? Anyway, I won't rant. It was lovely and if anyone wants to take me again I'm up for it (but I won't be paying for it myself).

Louisa.

Louisa is an Exeter Blow-in LOL..

Byron Burger has always a good reputation. They have one at Bluewater but I have not tried it.

But then I'm not a big Burger person.

Could make an exception for you though Lou. ;-)

That would give the 'Burgers' something to talk about. :)

Byron is far better than GBK. The cheapest burger and fries comes to ?10, so similar price to GBK or any of the local pubs. Shame we don't have anywhere nearby to get a decent burger (other than Burger Bear at the Nun's Head a couple of times a week, as MrBen mentioned).

There's one in Clapham rah, and ditto what Jeremy said above. If you're a fan of medium- rare burgers you'll be highly impressed. The meat was melt in the mouth. Various options around chip sizes and whether or not they've got jackets on etc and probably the nicest onion rings ive ever tasted.

Foxy when you taking me? Lol

    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
    • Having a BBQ (fingers crossed) in 2 weeks and need a small BBQ for veggie bits and any spare benches or garden tables and chairs to borrow to add to mine. Any going? Thanks in advance...
    • Oh dear, hope you are OK, I've had it three times and it was worse each time, but not a patch on many of those who got it before they vac' role out. Not commenting on the discussion as I got confused many days ago beyond the reminder that Corbyn would not compromise and the harm that could lead to him, the party and regards Brexit pre and post referendum the country.  Starmer goes too far the other way at times.
