My eldest son qualified as a pool lifeguard as was able to earn ?7.50/hour working for Fusion as a summer job / part timer after school.

The Royal Life Saving Society 5 day qualifying course cost ?170.00 and is run by various leisure centres - including JAGS locally. A google search will locate where and when next courses are held.

He has also qualified as a Beach LIfeguard (different 5 day course - run by Royal National Lifeboat Institution for about ?200) and hopes to earn ?8.00 / hour for 48 hour week on Cornish beach this summer. As a student and effectively a non tax payer it's pretty good money at ~ ?400 a week.

Love to but financially I have that sinking feeling that it isn't going to work out, though, if me and my mates pool our resources then I might just go with the flow.

Life's A Beach, sometimes...B)

Aah - San Diego. Wind surfing off the beach, skiing in the mountains. The perfect climate ~ 75F all year round. I remember it well, particularly beach parties on Coronado Island and drinking Dry Martini's watching the sun set over the Pacific from the terrace of the Coronado Hotel (was that it's name? - the one that featured in the Marilyn Monroe / Jack lemon film "Some LIke it Hot"))

    • Useful link, thanks. I see that neither of the Dulwich Hill councillors are standing again but one of the new Labour candidates for DH recently left the Lib Dems… The Greens are led by someone who left the Lib Dems and full of people who left Labour. Reform is full of those who left the Tories. And the Tories are full of those who left our planet some time ago. Confused? You will be!
    • I'm sorry to learn that though Liam does seems well qualified. Hopefully with McAsh gone, Southwark Labour will turn to Charlie to fill the gap.
    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
