Don't normally like to recommend hotels etc because it can be subjective. However have a look at the Hotel de Vigny by the Arc de Triomphe/Champs-Elysees. Part of the Relais & Chateaux group which guarantees excellent food. Not cheap but ideal for a special occasion

I can't recommend a hotel, but can recommend an area - the Marais. Lots going on. I also recommend looking at the website davidlebovitz.com. He's a Paris based chef/baker and has a fantastic website with recipes, shopping, inc. a very good market in the 4th on Sunday, and restaurants.

Not for hotels, but some good restaurant recommendations on these threads. Last time we went we did a walking tour of the Marais district and it was good fun. If you go, definitely try Falafel Alley (if you like Falafel that is) and try some of the chocolate shops - Jacques Genin's shop is amazing to look at and the chocolate isn't half bad too...http://www.davidlebovitz.com/archives/2008/12/jacques_genin_opens_in_paris.html

Hotel Tremoille is posh and worth every Euro. Quite an experience. Highly recommended.

Hotel Atlantis Saint Germain is a real find. Bargain price, great location, lovely hotel. I can't find its website but the reviews are here:

Many thanks for all the recommendations, will have a look.

It's just taken me ages to find this thread - thought I was going mad and then did a search and found it here in the lounge - spooky as I posted it in wanted, recommendations section!

Thanks again

the Marais is a great area to stay, if you want something fun and different(but not the cheapest) try Le Petit Molin...

It's fab and worth paying a bit more for... very theatrical and very Parisian

see the link below for more comments and info

happy trip!

try le hotel d,esmeralda - rue st-julien le pauvre,

its not the most modern of hotels, but it has character in abundance, with views of the seine and notre dame and its also more or less next door to another parisian institute - shakespeare and co. highly recommended.

And the bar downstairs hosts excellent soul/jazz/funk bands. Just be sure to soften your pronunciation of the 't' in chat when talking to the frogs. 'Le cha(t) noir' means 'the black cat' whilst 'Le ChaT noir' means something entirely different...uuufff.

    • Don't know why but it seems like there have been impromptu fireworks since early September. At one point I even wondered if there was a shooting range or something like that over Dulwich Hamlet way- the direction where the firework sounds seem to be coming from? Is there some kind of new, fireworks craze going on and where are people getting them, out of season?
    • Hello, I have your cat!!! I can't find a contact number but mine is 07845 277923.
    • Hi everyone, thanks so much for taking the time to come back on my thread - hearing all your responses has been very helpful.    I’ve tried some of the suggestions you shared about how to improve the connection but they don’t seem to make too much difference so I think we are probably in a dead spot unfortunately. I’ll keep trying though and hopefully it will get a bit better.    Coincidently, I found out yesterday that BT fibre broadband is coming to East Dulwich soon which should much improve the WiFi signal available in the area so I’m planning to switch to that as soon as it arrives. Fingers crossed! If you’re interested to hear how it is, feel free to message me and I can let you know.    Thanks again for all your help!
    • If you want to self cater and do it yourself, why not try one of the rooms in a church..  one I am thinking about has a huge room with kitchen and toilets… parking on site.. and another one worth considering is the church near Dulwich Library , top of Barry Road..  pm if you want more info and of course.. all the pubs on Lordship Lane. if you want further afield, Rosendale Pub has rooms above bar area that you can also hire…  Alleyns Head also good - section off a section of the pub for  your sole use and parking on site.. although, might not work if try want to dance and play there own music. Kingwood House might also be worth considering…
