Bought 2 Magners 1 litre cider bottles ?3-75 each or 2 for a fiver as I approached the till I knew I was going to get ripped off and was watching the till like a hawk. Sure as anything they didn't register the discount armed with info from this board I asked to see the manager. I told him a lot of people are commenting on this and he said he wished they would approach him directly. He was very apologetic and immediately got the cashier to correct this - I asked the cashier if this happened a lot and she said it did. Starting to think that this is more than incompetence.

I gave up on the incompetence theory some time ago.

Edited to add: But it's not just Somerfield.

I bought three bottles of wine for a tenner in Iceland recently and got charged for four.

The cashier expressed no surprise when I pointed this out (I've now started checking all my receipts in supermarkets, sad though it may be).

Nor did the person in charge seem surprised when they refunded me my money.

Another customer said "Good thing you checked your bill." Yeh.

It's happened to me on more than one beer promotion and has been corrected by the long-suffering till jockey.

I've been advised by the staff member on more than one occasion to complain to the manager.

But I never have.

I reckon beer's making me apathetic when at source and all full of feist-ivity when at keyboard.

I tend to type a good fight.

Whooooa big cold bottles of cold Peroni.

I've a bladder full of urine and the desire to commit a minor act of liquid-based criminal damage to the lower left hand corner of their shutters tonight.

Who's with me?

Depending on who's on Question Time of course. And I've still got the extras to watch on series two of Saxondale.

Twelveish perhaps?

Wingdings DD, great idea.

Interesting you used the word 'quail' in your post, it's a little known fact that Roger Daltrey's trout farm was a haven for quail. How many times did he put a loaded shotgun in my hand and tell me to "take lunch from the sky"?

Oh, Christ.

He looked from the Peroni to the Saxondale series 2 cover and back again and saw he had become one and the same.

Glad you're with me Snorky, though of course it won't be so much smashing as potentially introducing rust into their shutters.

Unless of course they're galvanised, probably by a half-starved minimum-wage 'earning' immigrant capitalist plaything whose lungs will end up looking like lace curtains because of the galvanisation process he's been forced to endure.

Mind if he's been working for the likes of capitalist oppressors like Somerfield, maybe he deserves all he gets.

Sell out.

I'll let you know about the Saxondale extras. Cheers.

I do. It came from them changing over the '0' and the '8'. It's called something. Juxtaposition?

No it's not that, but a bit like it and the word doesn't have an 'x' in it.

For some reason transvetite is giggling around my mind.

Did Eddie Izzard ever play a skit around mayonnaise?

?2.08 you say? For Hellmans? Not bad.

But I checked my bill before I left so I did get it for ?1.05 after a member of staff sorted it out ! so well good price ..

Just went to the check out with 2 bottles of softner advertised on the shelf 2 for ?2.

Thanks to this thread I was very suspicious of what I would be charged.....

?2.89.

I was almost pleased.

I told the cashier, who then went off to check the shelf and see if I was telling the truth and I waited (a little bit excited at this point) for her to come back.

She came back with the sign saying it was out of date, but there was no fuss in giving me the offer.

Me: This happens a lot in here doesn't it? (with smug look on my face)

cashier lady: yes - the manager can't do his job properly. sorry about that.

I'm confused now Sonners, what's Irvine Welsh got to do with it?

I went shopping today and bought crisps and dips both of which had offers on them. When i went to check out I remembered this thread so asked whether they had put through the offers. The assistant asked what they were and I told him the two items and guestimated the amounts and instead of checking these costs he went straight into the till and gave me change to the amounts that I told him, didn't even check that I was correct or anything and didn't give me a new receipt. Couldn't quite believe it. No surprise and no apology.

Apology for what? He took your word those goods were on special offer.

You could have been tucking him up like a kipper.

Mmm, kippers, are they on offer?

'The Metropolitan Police have appealed for help to find a man after a woman was seriously injured in an unprovoked attack in south London. The woman, in her 20s, was assaulted on Lordship Lane in East Dulwich at around 4.45pm on Monday August 25. She was treated by paramedics for injuries to her face and her jaw was broken in the attack. The victim was then taken to hospital and she continues to be supported by specialist officers. Officers are now searching for the suspect and are urging members of the public to come forward if they have information. He is described as a black man in his 30s or 40s with balding hair. He was wearing dark clothing during the attack. He is said to have approached the woman while she was by herself before swearing at her and then hitting her in the face. Detective constable Charlotte Kerr, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are working hard to find the person we believe is responsible for this senseless and unprovoked attack. “While we continue our enquiries, we hope our increased neighbourhood police presence will offer some reassurance to women and girls throughout the local area. “If you saw anything on Monday, 25 August – particularly between the junction of Lordship Lane and Chesterfield Grove at around 16:45hrs - do not hesitate to get in touch with us. “No matter how small you think your information is, it may be the key that unlocks our investigation.” Any witnesses or anyone who can help identify the suspect is asked to please contact the Met via 101, quoting 5018/25AUG or 01/7897951/25. Those who wish to share information anonymously can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.'
    • We live a little further down, on Pymers Mead. Traffic is terrible (always has been, but worse since the introduction of the Southwark LTNs). It's mainly the school drop -- traffic is noticeably lighter once the private schools break up  Have a few friends who live on that side of CR backing on to the train line. None has had any major complaints and the gardens on that stretch are fairly long, so you're not right on the line. Some have kids who go to Charter North -- its catchment defintely extends to Croxted Road. Other state secondaries nearby are Elmgreen and, of course, Kingsdale, although that doesn't have a catchment -- pure lottery
