I just went for custom designed furniture and plan. Kitchen design trends change all the time and I wanted to make sure I'll get something universal. Thankfully I was able to pay for a designer carpenter. I'm glad I did it because I have one of a kind kitchen. I wanted to make sure that it is appropriately customized to meet the needs of my big family.

We had ours built by a local craftsman - and it proved to be very competitively priced because his prices for the better cupboard carousels and other interiors were lower than Howdens. The advantage of getting a custom built kitchen is that the build can be flexible to your needs as you do not have to stick to the custom cabinet sizes. He was great at coming up with suggestions and we are delighted with the result. Please PM me if you would like his number.

Ikea - lasted years - we when we did our kitchen extension in our previous house the builders were able to dismantle them and re assemble as part of the new kitchen, adding the new doors.

I understand they have changed the sizing now so we prob cannot do that again. The carcasses have been very robust.

probably not high end enough for alot of folk but done us ok.

love to know what you ended up with!!!

We went to Puccini - a small independent company based in Brockley, which does beautiful and not too pricey Italian kitchens (doimo cucine). Their service is second to none - really couldn?t have asked for more - which has been a life saver during a stressful house renovation.

We had ours fitted by Murdoch Troon. It was a bespoke kitchen and they came to us to talk through the design and colour options, though 99% of the design was created by Murdoch Troon as we really liked their ideas within the space we have. And what I particularly love is the sink unit and our worktop - it looks great in our opinion and they have freestanding units also now https://www.murdochtroon.co.uk/freestanding-units/central-island-units. It may have taken us a couple of years to find what we wanted as we really struggled to find this type of handmade quality at our budget.

    • You could try asking  ChatGPT? Give it the information you have posted here, and ask for suggestions in your preferred geographical areas (eg South and Central London, or whatever). It recently saved me hours when I was looking to see if there was a cheaper  energy tariff for my usage, and it  gave me other very useful relevant  information. I've also used it for several other things, and it has been eye openingly helpful. • Yes it would be easier, and I give a lot to the hospice shops, but for various reasons there are certain things I prefer to give to Oxfam. However I might go through the books and see if some could be donated more locally. I think in any charity shop staffed by volunteers, the reception you get must depend on the member of staff. The Oxfam bookshop have always been very happy when I've taken shedloads of books there in the past. On the other hand, I've taken things to the hospice shop that were received very grumpily when they hadn't even looked in the bag or asked what they were. It felt like I was being a nuisance and causing them more work. I don't remember a previous thread on here  about the Oxfam shop and parking, but that's possibly because it wasn't relevant to me at the time.
