It would have been appreciated if our local powers that be had given a heads up after all the posting on this matter.

Still if you are a motorist why would you be told. You are there to be milked

Intend intend after a month to put in a freedom of information request to see how much these cameras have produced.

A "heads-up" about what? The 20mph restriction has been in place for some time. The cameras are painted bright yellow and there are signs warning of the cameras and 20mph signs all along the road. What more do you need to stop acting like a victim?

I challenge anyone to drive around Southwark for 45 mins without creeping over the 20mph limit.

20mph LIMIT mean driving at 17-18 mph.

You simply cannot keep your eye on the road looking for cyclists / pedestrians / other vehicles

if you are constantly looking down checking your speed.

I Suspect it's because these cameras have not been in operation for many years.

If they are activated it would have been nice to have been informed.

this is not a 20 mph road.

If you are a driver do you actually drive at or below 20mph all over the borough on every road.

20mph is a ridiculous limit for a wide road like Sydenham Hill - not only unnecessarily low, but will inevitably result in overtaking (and therefore excessive speeding). I fully intend to continue to drive 30ish along it and slow down for any cameras. Thanks for the update.

Since the 20mph limit came into place along Sydenham Hill I have seen some seriously dangerous driving. The other day some nut job over took me and the 2 cars in front of me whilst approaching a bend! The guy at the front driving at 18-20mph was clearly a pillock but that's not the point. As frustrating as it is when you have a stickler in front of you, you've just got to sit behind them and try not to get distracted, angry or fall asleep behind the wheel.

ps - I'm in favour of the 20 mph limit on certain roads but a bit of common sense wouldn't go amiss.

Camera on Sydenham hill flashed me today (though I was going at 20m/h! I am very confused by this, and to add to it I've had 3 cars and a motorbike overtake me on the same road a few metres after the camera.

If I get a ticket (though really I don't see how I was going maybe 21,22 at the most is there a way to complain to the council? (Is this a question for James Barber?)

Thanks.

They are starting to issue fines on this route now - a friend got a letter after being pinged doing 26.

Southwark and surrounding boroughs are going in to lockdown mode - slowing traffic to a awful crawl in the name of "safety". How anyone can justify that stretch of road being a 20Mph zone is beyond me.

Is there anything anyone can do?

    • Best experience we had was with Modern House. The rest of the agents around the area are appalling.... They just want their commission and not interested in getting a good deal. You'd be lucky if they pick up the phone...
    • I’d like to echo the positive comments about Trelco. I discovered that the stopcock on the rising main was leaking and was damaging the flooring in the utility room. Not having seen this thread, or any reviews for that matter,  I picked Trelco  as it was the nearest to me. It was a gamble but goodness it paid off. James was responsive and clear in what he offered. His colleague Andy replaced the offending stopcock and put in a lever valve to allow me to shut off the water easily when I go away. He did a great job, neat and tidy, he was cheerful, friendly and professional. All this within a day of contacting them. Although not an emergency it needed resolution quickly. The price charged was very reasonable indeed, especially considering the quality of the service. I am so pleased to have found such an excellent plumber.
