FOUND: black cat

Extremely talkative, skinny black cat found in Friern Road yesterday.

Has an ID collar, but the tag is missing. Small bell on collar too.

Would be very grateful of any assistance in finding it's proper home.

take it to a vet, the cat may be micro chipped. They can check it for you

it shouldn,t be too hard to find who owns it, talking cats are pretty thin on the ground.

There was a notice up about a cat called Fred by the butchers that I thought was black (can't remember the details but was on tree down Blackwater).

That's him! Thanks so much TarahC! His owner has just collected him, he's about to be reunited with his brother at home who had been missing him for 3 days.

Not a cat owner so curious as to why cats get lost?

They go hunting, usually at night. If they are unneutered they go looking for romance. Get your cats neutered and keep them in at night

Don't they have any sense of direction then? Our new neighbour has two cats. How long will it take them to familiarise themselves with the area?

It depends on the cat. I had one go missing once - she had been spayed - and she only went to the next street and was found in someone's garden. I had put up notices and they called me. After that she never disappeared again except to go to a neighbour's two doors down to visit when I was at work. Some cats are more inquisitive than others. They are more likely to get injured at night by traffic. Usually you keep cats in for a couple of weeks after moving in and hope everything works out after that.
