Do you need to do anything Lewishamman?

If litter of condoms is a problem stick a note through the door it otherwise, is it really a problem?

I have good reason to believe that many years ago the woman living upstairs at the time was a working girl - and the coming and going was sometimes eyebrow-raising. But she was a good neighbour and a lovely person. It didn't impinge on my life really

I am rather frail having had several heart attacks and of course I am afraid. I work from home and it is very stressful to me. You know what's sai about these Russian gangs mafia type's and the men in the cars are all Russian, from what I can see they come at the end of each day at about midnight. I see everything from my window as I have my office upstair's.

It may solund trivial to some of you but I am very worried as the whole area seem's to be heading down hill.

There is a serious issue here.

These people exploit young girls from their own country and the Baltic states.

My earnest suggestion would be to go to the police station to make a report.

Unfortunately, the police have a great reputation for being less than subtle and the last thing you need is a patrol car turning up to take your statement and then proceeding directly to the other address.

Seems a weird accusation helena - given the number of replies to lewishham man I havn't seen many attacks. My initial response was to suggest not worrying too much - brothels in South London go back far longer than any of us

But if the suspected brothel is dealing in enforced prostitution and trafficking of women then yes, complaints should be made to the police. Can't it be done anonymously? If it is happening regularly, keep a log of times and descriptions and pass it on accordingly

Thank you Helen. Us seniors do get the sharp end of things. I was young once as well and all these people on here if they are lucky will reach 79 like I have.

Don't feel too upset - I know you are new and feel a bit put upon, and it sounds like there is a lot going on where you are but declan was just being cautious - it's not your fault but several new posters seem to make mischief and he maybe came down on the harsh side. But he's a good egg

You will get plenty of support here so stick with it.

My apologies for suspecting you were not who you appeared to be in your posts. It happens sometimes here and I got it wrong this time. Apologies again and I hope I'm lucky enough to reach 79 years young.

Sean, I didn't mean you. Just in general I've noticed recently that when older people join in they find themselves defending themselves because they might not understand the dynamic . It makes me cringe. Notice the last message by Lewishamman? Is that neighbourly?

Lewishamman I'm sorry that Declan made you feel that way. I didn't see the need for him to speak to you like that. I hope you know that there are people in the community and on this forum that don't believe you have to be nasty to have a discussion. There's lots of great stuff on this forum if you look past the ugly bits. :)

    • Did you try the emergency number posted above? It mentions lift breakdowns over the festive period outside the advertised  times. Hope you got it sorted x
    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
    • Adapted not forced.  As have numerous species around the world.  Sort of thing that Attenborough features.  Domestic dogs another good example - hung around communities for food and then we become the leader of the pack.  Not sure how long it will take foxes to domesticate, but some will be well on their way.    Raccoons also on the way https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1j8j48e5z2o
    • My memory, admittedly not very reliable these days, places the shop on the block on the left hand side just before Burgess Park going towards Camberwell. Have also found a reference to Franklins Antiques being located at 157 Camberwell Road which is on that block. This is a screen shot obtained from Google maps of that address which accords with my memory except the entrance door was on the right hand side, where the grey door is, rather than in the centre.
