SimonM
At this time of year the Dog is full of foreign language students from all over Europe & the USA based at Dulwich College, behaving objectionably...A true gentleman does not visit a shop. He has his tailor pay calls.... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7386-an-english-gentleman/page/4/#findComment-235383 Share on other sites
nashoi
Many moons ago a friend of mine was feeling rather pleased with himself when as a young chap starting his new career he'd purchased his first 3 piece suit. He thought the waistcoat in particular gave a chap a rather distinguished air. Unfortunately this being his first suit the budget had been limited to say the least. To make up for this he reasoned he'd take it to a more traditional establishment to be altered and so found himself resplendent in new suit at Ede and Ravenscroft. He was taken into the oak panelled back room where he was pushed, pulled and tugged around by an elderley gentleman with a tape measure around his neck. Eventually he stood back and said "Well sir, I can't make it fit but I can improve it for you." Crushed. dulwichmum
I adore Ede and Ravenscroft, and had them fine tuning my attire just last month (sigh). I like to visit them every year at the beginning of the summer - it is a ritual that I like to engage in...However, I think that the look Michael is trying to achienve is perhaps cultured, sophisticated, stylish and yet casual - not eccentric, trapped in a time warp - a sort of Chris Eubanks meets Doctor Who.Smart casual, good quality, well cut. Great casual leather shoes - perhaps Fins or Tods? Well made chino's, expensive rugby shirts. Nothing too edgy.It is not workwear you require sweetie, is it? Do you (bats eyelashes)?-------------------------------------------------Yeah DM's look is much more suitable if you too want to look like a tosspot city trader on his day off, for added authenticity add a skid mark & a chlamydia dribble ( free from your secondment to Singapore) in your T.M Lewin twin fold cotton boxer shorts ( mops brow ) maybe add a corporate golfing cap to cover the bald patch.Bingo & done ( like a kipper )not forgetting some wanky Oakley shades.....W**F Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7386-an-english-gentleman/page/4/#findComment-235452 Share on other sites
