I went this morning to collect a Special Delivery letter and the delivery office was shut. There was a note on the door saying that due to industrial action it would be closed on 09.09.09 and only open between 10-11am. I couldn't wait around as I had to get to work. I called the number on the back of card they left and they couldn't let me know when the office would be back to normal. Does anybody know whether or not they will be open tomorrow or whether I have to wait until next week?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Did you manage to pick up something this morning from the delivery office or are you talking about your normal post? I think that services are working in some capacity, but the Silvester Road delivery office was shut until 10am this morning. I need to pick up some concert tickets for next week so I'm hoping that it's open from 8am as normal tomorrow. If anybody knows whether or not it will be open as normal I'd appreciate a heads up!

Thanks

Hi mlteenie

I managed to pick up my tickets from the Silvester Road Delivery Office the next day (last Thursday) as it was open as normal. There are strikes in London (all areas except EC) this Wednesday (16th Sept) so I would take a punt that the delivery office will be closed again then, or at least have restricted opening hours. Maybe try popping along tomorrow?

Good luck!

I went into the Silvester Road sorting office today looking for a parcel that hadn't been delivered - the very helpful guy there - the one who remembers who regular customers are and where they live - said they had a two to two and a half week backlog of parcel deliveries. The posties themselves don't seem happy about disapointing customers; I am getting letter post in Underhill most days - but running 4-5 days late against normal delivery times (based on news magazine deliveries which are normally regular).

The guy in the office's advice if you wanted a delivery was to get it sent 'special' - these are given priority - but at a cost

I went in to the sorting office the other day and the guy on the counter said that RM is in chaos with a huge backlog of post. Special and Recorded are prioritised. I am waiting for four or five packages for up to two weeks now and basically the posties won't work overtime so the backlog will only be gradually reduced.

We are all going to have to hang in there until the whole thing is resolved, only then discovering whether our parcels have actually gone missing or not. It is a pain.

I went to the post office yesterday and the nice man at the sorting office said that there was a 2 weeks backlog which would take around 3 weeks to clear. I have been waiting on items from amazon for over 2 weeks.

He stated that the items posted earlier would take longer to be delievered as those item were at the bottom of the pile.

Lets hope we do recieve our item.

HI

I am also waiting for stuff, thought I'd call the post office to see if the parcel was sat there but like the previous posts the guy told me about the back log. Interestingly though he did say that they were getting extra drivers in to clear the backlog over the next couple of days and would be hopefully getting everything out either tomorrow or Monday. He said if it hasn't turned up by Tuesday give them a call back.

Could be worse.... the passport office ignored me paying for secure delivery and bunged my marrige certificate in the regular post - 3 wks ago.

Got new passport begining of Sept but think my certificate's lost forever - suppose I should cross my fingers my identity (or that of my husband's) isn't stolen :(

On the plus side, the manager at the LL Post Office couldn't have been more helpful when trying to sort this out yesterday.

    • I would love something like this..I remember the one where Gails is now..It had some bric a brac furniture and 2nd hand clothes, I don't remeber the Oyster bar. The issue with the one on Zenoria St-And I speak as a long time habitué of Portobello, Kensington Market, Alfies,Spitalfields,Covent Garden (back when it had a decent vintage market on Mondays in the 80's and Early 90's) ..Was that a lot of the stuff they sold looked a bit meh..like a bad car boot fair. I also remember when we first moved here a small indoor market on the corner of North X road and Felbrigg rd that had bric a brac and bits of furniture..That one had some good stuff. I think the secret is in having a good mix of stalls selling well curated pieces at decent prices...It would also be good to have a few tables and rails available to rent for one-off sellers (car boot style) by application. When I lived in Notting Hill I used to do Portobello under the flyover a couple of times a year and made really decent money because people tended to go there on sundays for the Casual stallholders rather the same dealers selling the same stuff.
    • Highly recommend landscape gardener Jasper Davis. Jasper designed and built me a bespoke summer house.  He also transformed my garden including natural paving/sleepers and planting. Can't recommend him enough.IMG_9568.HEIC Contact Jasper on 07966 251778

    • I don't think so, sadly. The Zenoria Street indoor market failed to take off and generally speaking traders at Christmas Fairs and Farmers Markets are reporting that it isn't worth their while now. If you go to North Cross Road, the vast majority of visitors are only buying the street food! It was the same when I went to the Horniman Sunday market and second hand market yesterday. With the lack of footfall I couldn't understand how any of the traders could be making any money.
