Hi guys, not that old, but can anyone remember Melbourne cycles back in the 60/70s it was on the corner which is now William Rose the butchers. Also during that period there was a used spots car showroom opposite the the old sony shop.As a young lad I used to love drooling over the Lotus Elan and the Etypes in the showroom every school boys dream.

Melbourne Cycles, he was a lovely guy and great service.

Does anyone remember a small indoor sports car showroom opposite the Bishop/Foresters and Kebab shop. Im in the late 60s 70s era.

Back in those days there was another fantastic Sports car centre they sold used Etypes and Lamburgini, those days the area may not have been so trendy, but wow we had some motors. It was were the new Tesco Express is. I think it used to be a Gulf petrol station, does that ring any bells?

Wasn't there a printer's, too? I remember watching them at work, in a half-basement, somewhere along by Kellaway's? I remember the Launderette opening, my mum was very sniffy about it, on the corner of Pellatt Road. Dourof's carpet shop must have been there by 1959, as I used to play with their daughter, not sure of her name for the moment.

I thought Lockharts was a toy shop? I remember Mrs Lockhart very well, as you say, disorganised so it may well have sold stationary too.

    • Thanks for your reply. I’ve subscribed to Ancestry a few times in the past but felt I wasn’t using it enough to warrant keeping up the subscription.
    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
    • Was anyone else disturbed last night/early hours this morning by the party going on in someone’s garden on Crystal Palace road. Can’t see what house exactly but it’s around number 43 - 41… it was happening quite frequently last year. Seems it’s starting again! Very inconsiderate.
