One of my friends recently posted that she'd seen Midge Ure at the Princess theatre Hunstanton..or did I dream it?

Anyway, you can have nice trips to the Waldviertel in Niederosterreich. Beautiful small places like Zwettl, Schrems and Gmund! Sorry not much help maxxi but v. jealous. Bon voyage!

One word. Cake. What those Austrians don't know about baked carbohydrate and fat isn't worth knowing.

Seriously, I spent a week there but decades ago. I would definitely recommend wandering the streets soaking up the grand, modernist architecture (e.g. the Secession Building).

Have a good trip.

It's certainly a point of view Lou old luv - but this is work so I shall be "traipsing half way across the European continent earning cash in someone else's country." - just wanted to see if anyone had had similar experience and - after having gorged on coffee and cake and Baroque architecture - discovered other delights.

GooseyG, RD & Numbers thanks - noted and googled.

Numbers - I spent a short rain-soaked holiday in a caravan in Hunstanton as a child. There were piles of starfish on the beach. I never found out why.

Why work in Vienna though maxxi? I obviously am not aware of all the circumstances, forgive me here, maybe it's a great opportunity. But in my personal experience I can assure you it's worth considering somewhere a little closer to home. The grass always appears greener in the field next door until you jump the fence and discover it's full of ragwort.

Alex K you've obviously never been to Norwich.

Louisa.

"Alex K you've obviously never been to Norwich."

I've been.

Obviously I chose not to stay there. For obvious reasons.

Perhaps not so obvious, though; we are different, it seems, you and I, and perhaps I must work harder to understand your perspective.

Perhaps before I judge the opinions of someone who prefers Norwich to Vienna I need to ask a preliminary question, one with an answer that will give me, at least in part, access to the perspective of that someone. Here goes.

Louisa, is your metabolism carbon-based?

**grin**

Norwich is a beautiful ancient city. I used to go to Lowestoft as a kid for holidays. Some of the negative language here is very London centric. Horrible stereotypes about inbreds and ugly people are the very reasons why Londoners are so unpopular when we go elsewhere in the country. Not that I'm saying any of you are actual Londoners, more than likely posh out of town wannabes who moved here from somewhere like Stafford or Winchester. Meh.

Ragwort, you must have had a pony

You're actually middle class aren't you

I don't know a girl who knows what ragwort is , who isn't a horse/pony owner

Ha ha!

Jokes !

If you are going to be there in the summer, find out about all of the local Heurigen places - farms that sell the new wine with big plates of bread and meat and cheese. Generally cheap and a really nice relaxed atmosphere and several are within cycling distance of Vienna. Also I would go to Tuln, birthplace of Egon Schiele and take a look at the Egon Schiele museum.

Numbers, no you didn't dream it, your friend could have seen Midge Ure in Sunny Hunny.

We were there back in August and saw the posters and an A-Frame advertising stand outside for a concert sometime later in the month I believe.

We're going to friends at the end of next month and going to see Marc Bolan and TRex

(well alright TRextasy, but that bloke is such a doppleganger you can hardly tell the difference).

    • What was he doing on the stage at Glastonbury? Or on the stage at the other concert in Finsbury Park? Grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst pissed and stoned 20 somethings on the promise of free internet sung-- Oh Jeremy Corbyn---  What were his policies for Northern mining towns with no jobs or infrastructure? Free Internet and university places for youngsters. What were his other manifesto pledges? Why all the ambiguity over Brexit?  I didn't like Thatcher, Blair or May or Tony but I respected them as politicians because they stood by what they believed in. I respect all politicians across the board that stick to their principles. Corbyn didn't and its why he got  annihilated at the polls. A socialist, anti imperialist and anti capitalist that said he voted for an imperialist and pro capitalist cabal. He refused to say how he'd vote over and over again until the last knockings. He did so to appease the Islington elite and middle class students he was courting. The same people that were screaming that Brexit was racist. At the same time the EU were holding black and Asian immigrants in refugee camps overseas but not a word on that! Corbyn created and courted a student union protest movement that screamed at and shouted down anyone not on the left . They claimed Starmer and the centre right of labour were tories. He didn't get elected  because he, his movement and policies were unelectable, twice. He turned out not to have the convictions of his politics and died on his own sword.    Reform won't win an election. All the idiots that voted for them to keep out Labour actually enabled Labour. They'll be back voting tory next time.    Farage wouldn't be able to make his millions if he was in power. He's a very devious shyster but I very much doubt he'd actually want the responsibility that governance requires.
    • The purge of hard left members that were part of Corbyn's, Mcdonnel's and Lansmans momentum that purged the party of right wing and centrist members. That's politics. It's what Blair did to win, its what Starmer had to do to win. This country doesn't vote in extreme left or right governments. That's partly why Corbyn lost  We're pretty much a centrist bunch.  It doesn't make it false either. It's an opinion based on the voting patterns, demography and statistics. Can you explain then why former mining constituencies that despise the tories voted for them or abstained rather than vote for Corbyns Labour?  What is the truth then? But he never got elected!!! Why? He should have been binned off there and then. Why he was allowed to hang about is an outrage. I hold him party responsible for the shit show that we've had to endure since.
    • Depends on what the Barista says doesnt it? There was no physical confrontation with the driver, OP thinks she is being targetted when she isnt. These guys work min wage under strict schedules so give them a break unless they damage your stuff
