East Dulwich Road will be resurfaced 3->5 November each night between 8pm and 5am between Grove Vale and Crystal Palace Road. This assumes no surprises or bad weather.

Noisy work will be, as much as possible, contained 8pm to midnight each evening.

I've asked what the diversions for bus route 37 & 484 will be and other traffic. I've also had an extended dialogue with council officials over the summer about taking this closure as an opportunity to renew all the road markings and zebra crossing markings at Goose Green roundabout. Fingers crossed this all goes to plan as well.

Importantly if you park your car of off East Dulwich Road you'll find access harder and may wish to park elsewhere for these two nights.

If you have any problems or concerns please let me know.

Honestly the way the Council decides which roads to refurbish remains utterly opaque. There are dozens of roads in the area that require urgent attention and yet they're focusing on a stretch which is perfectly adequate for the time being. I recently asked them to tell me when our street was last done and they replied saying they didn't have any idea. If they don't keep logs of where our money is spent, no wonder the resurfacing is completely random.

The Conway AECOM letter of 28 October says:

"The duration of the works specified above is only indicative"

This paragraph then goes on to explain "their" policy on road markings with detail about "H-bar" policy.

The Conway contract manager for these works is Taran Omer whose direct line is quoted as 0330-337 1001.

The road is still open during the day, isn't it?

Or have I read it wrong?

Hi peckhamside,

the works are proposed at this time due to how busy and critical to the overall road infrastructure. Such hours were undertaken in the past for Lordship lane and East Dulwich Grove. it isn't nice for residents and contractors are clear they will be much quieter from midnight onwards - but they can;t turn of the reversing warning noise.

And yes Sue the road is open 5am to 8pm.

Lots more buses. Night time lorry bans wouldn't apply. Kids going to/from school.

We will never have an ideal time and this overnight working is an attempt to minimise inconvenience which is little consolation for people on this road OR the diversionary route - North Cross Road, Crystal Palace Road who tonight will wonder the heck is going on.

    • What is it that makes Waitrose so special! Admittedly I have shopped a couple of times in the Orpington and Beckenham one - sometimes buying food which I cannot get else where. Their 'basic range' is not bad. Price for price and quality - M & S.
    • Sometimes a shed or other installation has to have written approval from the freeholder i.e. Southwark, Southwark has (or did have) a Leaseholder Association.   Could also come under Anti Social Behaviour Unit.
    • Love Dulwich is great but has a large step in front. We have only been weekdays at Lunch time. Maria's next to Picture House is disabled friendly. Also can reserve table in advance. We did a Sunday lunch catch up with family - there were 8 of us.
    • Hi, Thinking about  going with some friends and was just wondering if folk might like to report back please. Most importantly sound level when busy & is it disabled friendly.  Thinking on a Sunday lunchtime but don’t want a busy busy environment or loud chatter - a couple of friends could not cope. Time can be flexible, if that helps - say 2 ish to avoid above.. Thanks…
