Thought I'd start a thread to get some ideas, and which other people can use if they're stuck.

Right, so I have drawn out a female colleague, 28 years old, SERIOUS runner (like does qualifying times for marathons). I don't know much else about her interests other than that she likes to go out for a drink with her pals. So was thinking of a running related gift. The allowed bBudget is around a tenner.

Any ideas???

If she is really a runner, she'll have all her kit already and she'll be particular about what she uses as is every specialist. Think about someone trying to buy you music kit for a tenner.

I used to be a long distance runner (before I hurt my knee and back) and you often need to soak your muscles after long training runs or after a race. She is less likely to have treated herself to something nice like bath salts or bubble bath and its less likely to go to waste. See if you can find something specifically for sore muscles (not sure that exists).

Yep, that's my thinking too.

That's a good idea. Or I was thinking of either a book or something funny, but I wanted ideas from runners (being a lazy fat bastard myself), so thanks.

There are LOADS of useful things you can buy a musician/guitarist for under a tenner. Obviously you're not going to buy a guitar for that, but you might buy a cable, strap, tuner, etc.

Similarly for a runner.. you're not going to get your running shoes or a proper bit of clothing, but you might get some gloves or something. And even if you have them already, a spare pair never hurts!

I know and there is a lot of stuff a runner needs for a tenner regularly like new socks, gels to stop rashes etc. But you don't really get excited about getting that stuff as gifts and you probably have very specific ideas about which brands you prefer etc.

I'm only speaking for myself-- I still do half marathons and that's just how I would feel about it.

I'd spend the tenner on something fun and frivolous. For example, photo booth kit, inflatable dolphin, inflatable reindeer antlers hat that you throw rings onto (saw that on Amazon), a children's turn taking game like Pop-up Pirate or Shark attack, novelty masks or hats.

    • I don't think so, sadly. The Zenoria Street indoor market failed to take off and generally speaking traders at Christmas Fairs and Farmers Markets are reporting that it isn't worth their while now. If you go to North Cross Road, the vast majority of visitors are only buying the street food! It was the same when I went to the Horniman Sunday market and second hand market yesterday. With the lack of footfall I couldn't understand how any of the traders could be making any money.
