Christmas songs you absolutely detest

OK...so shops have started playing Christmas music already, and its reminded me how offensive to the ear some Christmas songs are. *Now don't get me wrong, I love Christmas but hearing some of these songs over and over again drives me up the wall! Below is my top 3 'smash your stereo' favourites...

1. 'Driving Home For Christmas' - Chris Rea

2. 'Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) - The Darkness

3. 'Mistletoe and Wine' - Sir Riff Pilchard...this one gets extra hate points

The ones I do really like though are Bing Crosby's White Christmas and his duet with Bowie - Little Drummer Boy. Classics ...!

I like most Xmas songs fine and dandy provided I hear them between the 2nd and 24th of December.

Apart from The Pogues FTONY which I can listen to any old time as it's just a good song.

And as for East 17 it's not really a Xmas song except when it's in conjunction with the video.

Those white parkas, the snow, Brian, Tony, Tug and Boz giving it maximum yearnage, gets me every time.

As for Jonah Lewie if you have Stop The Cavalry followed by Always In The Kitchen At Parties you have a festive two-hander that'll get kids from 8 to 80 cutting a rug with gay abandon.

I can't stand the Maria Carey one (mind you, I don't like her music at the best of times, so her singing a xmas song was never going to work for me!), and the Slade one gets stuck in my head for days on end driving me mad. Always enjoy hearing the Pogues, can't help but smile. Am looking forward to teaching my 3 year old the lyrics this year...

I too quite enjoy Driving Home for Christmas - I know it's not cool, but when it comes to Christmas, I am resolutely uncool.

In fact, I would like to state my case here and now - I love Wonderful Christmas Time, Mull of Kintyre, Pipes of Peace and even the ruddy Frog Chorus. I'm Rosie and I heart Christmas cheese (in fact, that may be the name of one of the many Christmas albums I own).

Destestables include Whigfield's Last Christmas, any variety of Maria-esque warbly soul bastardisations of classic Christmas pop, I don't mind Mistletoe and Wine but Saviour's Day and The Lord's Prayer are pretty diabolical. Oh, I think there's a Michael Bolton one too. Ugh.

When I moved up to the Big City in the autumn of 1984, a cheap B&B in Bayswater was 'home' for a while. The best thing about it was another guest, a beautiful American who had just arrived in London trying to make it as an actress/model. We got on well, went out a couple of times, my heart was all aflutter... and then she just vanished. Moved out of the B&B, no contact details, nothing.

A few weeks later Wham! released this poxy song and there she was, looking lovely with her soft dark curls and baggy red coat, caught up in a love triangle between George and Andrew! Meh!
