We are thinking about buying a house on Underhill Road, but we are worried about the commute to the city. Just up from Belvoir Road, going away from Lordship Lane. Anyone live around there, commuting into the City (Liverpool Street and Aldergate area)? What is the commute like? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I live on Underhill near you and work near Moorgate. It normally takes me less than an hour door to door.

There are several ways to get there:

1. Get to ED station and then get the train to LB and then walk/tube it in.

2. Get the P13 to either West Dulwich or Tulse Hill stations and get the train to City Thamslink/Farringdon and then the walk/tube from there.

3. Get the 363 from Underhill to Peckham Rye and then either the train to LB or to City Thamslink/Farringdon.

The 'difficult' bit is getting to a station, which takes anything up to 25 minutes. After that it's easy.

Hi,

That's really near me. I live off Underhill between Melford Rd and Lordship lane.

I moved in March and either cycle which takes me 30 mins to Bank, or when its bad weather take the train from Forest Hill which thankfully now takes Oyster PAYG so I dont have to queue for a ticket every fluffing time.

Getting to FH station you can either walk over the hill past the Horniman which takes about 10 mins or hop on a 176, 197 or 185 bus which are normally quite frequent.

I personally think its a great place to be located (though I am clearly biased) as you're near the park and being connected to FH is handy not only for getting into town but also to connect to East Croydon which is a major hub to lots of other places. And its going to be on the East London line. The only downside is that its a zone 3 station where as East Dulwich is zone 2. The Plough at the Barry Rd/Lordship lane junction is also a rather nice pub in my opinion.

Anna.

    • Palace were at home last night, kicked off at 19.45. The timing sounds about right.
    • The way they were heading, towards the East bound South Circular, and on lights and sirens, wouldn't I think suggest that. I have lived on Underhill for close to 40 years, but it has not formed part of an emergency route until very recently, nor have we had rush hour queues until the LTN introduction. Despite the fact that it is a bus route much of it is residential and doesn't support speeding traffic safely. It's not a route I would chose to put 5 speeding police vans in convoy unless there was no alternative in accessing the A205. Which there now mainly isn't.
    • There were large amounts of police and a couple of TSG vans at London Bridge station last night at a similar time.  Usually that means some sort of Millwall related football clash, but I didn't hang around to find out.
    • In deed.  I was hypothesising and being ironic.  See my separate thread on football and politics.  Perhaps I'll add WTF in future (wtf would I want to go to Trumps America).
