The Dulwich Raider
I have written a piece for Deserter on Peckham.A little bit on history, a little bit on hipsters, and a lot on pubs:http://deserter.co.uk/2016/02/peckham-bar-stories/(My friend Half-life came along too, so there is also swearing throughout. spider69
Good article surprised the Prince Albert in "Bellenden Village" was not mentioned. Been there around longer than many of the Peckham pubs Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/96299-peckham-bar-stories/#findComment-968238 Share on other sites
goosey-goosey
Yet another excellent piece. And talking of Bellenden Village, anyone remember the Oglander (now a nicely redeveloped set of flats), which had a brief stint as a gay pub about 15-20 years ago? Jah Lush
Yeah, loved The Oglander. Don't remember it being gay though. My memory of it is of being mostly West Indian and serving up some tasty jerk chicken and playing some great reggae late into the night. A very sad loss to the community. Jeremy
Only time I remember going in there (2004ish?) I don't think it was gay OR west indian. In fact don't rememebr many people of any persuasion drinking in there. Quite a nice place though. It's tough to make a backstreet pub work, I guess. I haven't been in The Prince Albert since it was refurbed, but was pleased to see they still advertise the footy and other TV sport. And I remember The Wishing Well (as it was before Victoria Inn) fondly. Nice outside sun trap - especially in the afternoon ;)TDR Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/96299-peckham-bar-stories/#findComment-969069 Share on other sites
