redand proud is just posting an article in the telegraph, dhamaurian an article in an aussie newspaper called the sunday mail.

I'm disinclined to believe any paper called the mail even if totally unconnected to our one.

Plus the telegraph one was supporting brendan's comment about the dna stuff. So looking like not.

And Brendan, me too!!!

Hi Everyone.

Don't forget its Founders Day at Dulwich College tomorrow (Saturday).. It?s usually quite a good day especially with the concert in the evening along with the fireworks towards the end. If you've got time to spare, I would recommend it!

(Sorry I know its not exactly East Dulwich, but still thought it was worth mentioning!)

one night an ira checkpoint stops a car containing ian paisley and daniel o donnell(unlikely i know, but you never know).

anyway the lackey goes up to the boss and tells him who he has stopped and has he got permission to shoot them.

go ahead replies the boss.

just as well there was only two of them in the car replies the lackey as i,ve only got 2 bullets left.

well in that case goes the boss shoot o donnell twice.

why says the lackey.

well says the boss to be sure,to be sure.

I love the Irish festival - it really reminds me of that episode of Fr Ted where they have the Funland carnival - remember the spiderbaby that is actually a baby but has the head and body of a spider?

Anyway, me personal highlights of previous years include:

- Each county having its own personal tent. (Very demonstrative of Irish tribalism).

- Tombolas with prizes like tins of peas.

- The wee dancers with orange tans and amazing corkscrew beehive hairdos.

- The refreshment stalls with bread and jam.

- The big farmer looking blokes who win the tug of war.

Lovely. You're right all that is missing is the lovely gerls competition. Dulwich Mum could probably enter her nanny. She sounds like the acme of lovely girlyness.

The weather is absolutely perfect as well. I always thought it wasnt quite right on previous years with the sunshine. So much more appropriate (like St Patricks Day) where you have the wind and rain lashing the face off you.

We will probably lose the east of East Dulwich in the howling gale.

Oh bloody hell, I remember going on a very very stomach churning ride there a year or 2 back with a certain Mrs Mockney... Not good for a hangover at all!!! Mrs Mockney wasn't enjoying being spun around in the air, and she wanted me to know this! ;-)

I am a Ginga and am proud of it - there are a HUGE % of Gingas in my family, but no persons of Irishness that I am aware of. As for the Neanderthal thing:

"The Neanderthals are generally thought to have been a less intelligent species than modern man, Homo sapiens. They were taller and stockier, but with shorter limbs, bigger faces and noses, receding chins and low foreheads. They had a basic, guttural vocabulary of about 70 words, probably at the level of today's two-year-old, and they never developed a full language, art or culture"

Well, that could be me ....

    • An update, and at the bottom of the article ways to get involved and have a voice. National 'conversation' responses close 14th Jan.  https://www.specialneedsjungle.com/leaks-denials-fake-conversations-not-inspire-parental-confidence-send/ Closer to home, Councillor Ali has conducted a review of parent and child experiences of exclusions in Southwark and reports back to those who contributed at a dated TBC in January. If it is a date which I can attend then I'll share feedback. If not, is anyone else going who could let me know what is said?
    • I’m not an expert either but surely having that high of affordable housing would seem like a terrible investment. My guess is that they will pay southwark a fine then make the rest of it student housing too
    • For some strange reason, hubby likes to spend 'big' on family cards birthday and Christmas. I think it may have stemmed from his mother- she equated money with status and was a bit of a snob!  She was also quite eccentric - we asked for a suitcase one year and got a set of 4. One year she gave hubby the equivalent of a hearing aid - it was a device to hear bird song. Nobody we know send expensive cards. We have a twice yearly set of cards from the Foot and Mouth Painting Artists and have done for the last 30 plus years. I think they are around £12 for set of 10  - cannot remember what we paid this winter but they are fantastic value and beautiful paintings.  One of the best places around to buy cards is the Fair Trade Centre at Christ Church Barry Road. Fantastic selection with a starting price of £1.30.
    • I had to renew my licence - took photocopy of my current licence and also my renewal application and posted everything off. Within 10 days received my new licence. My old licence was due to run out in January so I submitted the renewal early December.
