Advertisements DO NOT go in this section

Recommended Posts

It's been a while since I had a grump, but of late there have been so many business advertising their services in this section that I am starting to lose my patience.

If you run a class, offer tutoring, look after pets/children, help people lose weight (etc etc), then you should not post in this section.

Zero tolerance from now on, I've previously been moving threads that are in the wrong place, but the list of repeat offenders is as long as my arm and the hours in a day are limited, so threads will be deleted without warning.

Thanks.

Hello moderator

I've just launched a site flendr.com which is about lending between family and friends - a big taboo, but this makes it easier. I am on the forum (have even bought some stuff and sold stuff) and I'd like to see what the forum thinks about it or lending between friends and family in general. I've done it all my life - hence Flendr. Can I do that/how can i do that.

Thanks in advance

Sue

My guess it depends on the definition of "advertisements". If I recommend my favourite baby food shop to someone asking for ideas and suggestions on the topic, would that be considered a violation?

Should not be the case.

Whereas XYZ corporation coming in to say how great their services are, I think we are all much sick and tired of that and heavyweight moderation is certainly due.

I am sorry I didn't realise this although I am not sure if my post is classified as an advertisement or not (?!) as I was really hoping for feedback about the idea. I will happily move it if you think it would be more appropriately positioned elsewhere on the site.

Hi Moderator - I was looking to meet and connect with fellow Latin American and Spanish families in the area. It's not a business and I'm not running a class. Should I have posted in the family classifieds section? When I looked through it it seemed to be purely for people running businesses and looking to buy/sell things which I didn't really think related to us.. when you get time some more guidance would be much appreciated :-)

    • Something doesn't quite smell right here and probably it's not  the chicken. Both the OP and TheWeekEnd specifically mention  chicken thigh fillets. TWE purchased £14 worth of chicken thigh fillets and they were thrown away "probably for the third time". £14 equates to around 12 fillets which is a lot. Could some have been frozen after purchase and then thawed? And thawed properly before cooking? TWE has a total of 4 posts of which 3 are on this thread.
    • Thanks to all for the advice, very glad to have this community for these enquiries. Here is how it got resolved in case its useful for anyone in the future: I had ordered some garden waste bags, and when the Veolia person came around I just asked them, and they were more than happy to take it no questions asked. 🙂
    • I keep seeing a thread 'missing cat', but you've been found.  Not sure if all would consider that a good thing.  Not a lot new happening ....  When you back in Blighty?
    • In March Oli and his team did an excellent job of the following work at a property I manage.  1. Completely removing existing broken front path. Covering and securing the void (coal shute) beneath using concrete lintels, waterproof membrane and concrete. Laying a compacted sub-base and new clay pavers. 2. Removing broken fence. Securely installing 6 fence posts and 5 fence panels across the end of the back garden. Base of posts wrapped in plastic  sheath and set in post mix. 3. Removing broken render from terrace steps and cleaning then re-rendering steps where needed and repairing other parts.  4. Jet washing rear patio. I would like to thoroughly recommend him to you for a job done very well at a fair price.
