The next Forum Drinks will be upstairs at the EDT (East Dulwich Tavern, on the corner by Goose Green roundabout) on Wednesday 15 October from 7pm onwards.

We have a space reserved in the area to the right as you come into the upstairs room from the stairs (the end of the room where the windows are) .

The upstairs bar won't be open, so please buy a drink before you come up!

Do come and chat to other forum members in real life. There is no need to divulge your forum name if you would rather not.

This is a social event, and not intended to be for publicising  your business -  there are other ways to do this on the forum.

If you have mobility or other  problems which make  stairs difficult for you, please  message me on here beforehand, and we can make arrangements to help you up (and down) the stairs.

So over the last few days the old Harvester at the top of the lane has been cleaned up.

They’ve cut down all the trees and cleared the front then this morning there is a cherry picked painting all the hoardings.

Do we think the council has finally told Dulwich Estate to clean it up and stop it from being an eye sore or do we think it’s been cleaned because it’s been sold or it’s on the market?

There’s a film crew at the Clockhouse pub - any ideas what’s going on? I didn’t see anyone famous, but there was a limo outside.

I'm interested to know other people's experiences.

As in any urban environment, I'm careful. I try not to use my phone outside  unnecessarily, and if I'm coming home by myself  late at night I also keep an eye out for any potential threats.

But that doesn't mean  I "don't feel safe". It's just sensible.

The only time I have ever felt seriously unsafe in London was decades ago  when I was a teenager, and that was one specific incident which could have happened anywhere.

I do however try to avoid places with loads of right wing thugs getting drunk and waving flags.

Hi all,

Planes seem louder from 4:30. Has it always been like this or has something changed?

So far, I haven't come across a bakery in East Dulwich or the surrounding areas which sells baked goods with fresh cream, other than Greggs on Peckham Rye. I'm thinking of things like chocolate eclairs and  cream buns.

I passed by the bakery in West Dulwich the other day - it looked traditional so I hoped they might sell some, but sadly when I asked they said they don't sell things with fresh cream.  Same for the bakery in Nunhead (I heard they used to, years ago).

Does anyone know of any bakeries near here (or further afield) which do sell these?

I should say that the M&S chocolate eclairs (the standard ones) are very good and they use proper fresh whipped cream, so I am thankful for that!

From Southwark News: https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/dulwich/londis-divides-opinion-in-leafy-dulwich/

Plans to open a new Londis until 1am every day of the week have divided residents living in Dulwich.

Plans have been submitted to turn two empty units located at 4 Melbourne Grove, East Dulwich into a Londis which would open from 6am until 1am from Monday through to Sunday.

The site was previously home to Big Belly’s, a fast food takeaway shop and a physiotherapy clinic.

Southwark Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee will decide on the plans at a meeting next Tuesday (August 19). Under the original plans, alcohol would also be sold from 6am to 1am every day of the week however, the Metropolitan Police raised concerns over the impact this could have on the surrounding residential area.

New Organic shop in the Village
Just spotted a new organic shop open in Dulwich Village — looks like it could become a regular stop. Proper selection of fresh veg, a few interesting local products, and it doesn’t feel overly polished (in a good way). Worth a look if you’re in the area.

..... thinking about the discussion about Chango.  Their "About us" blurb on the website says started by one Argentina guy.  So if one person has a successful business and goes on to open a number of shops when do they go from a supported successful "family" business to a less liked "chain"?

Chango - New local gem alert!
New local gem alert!
Just when we thought East Dulwich couldn’t get any better — a new café “Chango” has landed on the high street, and it’s all about empanadas! 🥟

This cosy spot is serving up golden, hand-crimped parcels packed with flavour — from classic beef and chimichurri to mouthwatering veggie options. Freshly baked, ridiculously moreish, and perfect with their strong coffee or a glass of Malbec 🍷☕.

From the school newsletter:

A New Name for Dog Kennel Hill

As you know we have been discussing and consulting with stakeholders about a

name change at DKH for a while. Following engagement with staff, pupils and

families, we gathered all views on a name change for the school and after

careful consideration of the feedback, the Local Committee and the Trust have

agreed with changing the school name to Grove Primary School from

September 2025.

Over the next few months we will begin a gradual process of changing our

name on signage, our website and emails etc. We will keep you updated.

We will be looking at designing a new logo to match the new school name and

will be working closely with a graphic designer to get creative. The school

council will be actively involved in this process. We will share the results with

you as soon as a design has been agreed and confirmed. We will be creating a

new school jumper to replace the old one, once the logo has been finalised. We

will phase this in over time.

We know that this is a welcoming change for some and that there are

parents and children who will be sad about the change. However, as a school

we think it will be a positive change for our school community and we will

work together to ensure that the ethos and culture of DKH will remain!

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone else in/around SE22 is also having the unfortunate luck of having Evri parcels delivered by a very rude individual? Whenever we have parcels delivered, our front gate is being slammed open and closed, ring doorbell is harshly banged (not pressed) followed by simultaneously banging on the door knocker and slamming the letter box multiple times. Someone is normally home by the time they come in the evening and never has to wait long for an answer. If we’re not home, we speak to them on the doorbell so we do find the actions of this individual unreasonable and rude.
We have tried a couple of times politely asking that they not do this but they are very dismissive and gives a passive-aggressive “have a nice day” reply.
Has anyone been able to contact Evri and successfully had any issues similar to this resolved? We have enough evidence through our doorbell footage but we are lost with what else we can do. We’ve tried asking politely but don’t want our gate or door damaged by someone who simply doesn’t care and lacks basic manners.

If anyone else is having this issue or has any advice on how we can report this, it would be much appreciated. After another dismissive reply to my concern this afternoon, I will be calling Evri tomorrow to raise a complaint. I have lost my patience with them

Looks like a new empanada place has opened on LL, a (small) chain. Have tried one of their other locations and they were meh

Just to say - I hope you keep supporting Chacarero (which is next to EDT on LL)!

- Chacarero are already here and their empanadas are genuinely the best I’ve had (in London).

- Chacarero are local - family owned and run - they’re genuinely lovely people (link to their Instagram). They seem to work all hours of the day (and I believe have a little one in their family now!)

So yeah - I won’t be going to the new place (no disrespect to an expanding chain), but I’ll definitely be ordering more from Chacarero. If you’re also a fan of good empanadas and keeping it local - I hope you do the same!

ED Forum Drinks! @ East Dulwich Tavern
The second ED Forum drinks will be Upstairs at the EDT on Wednesday 16 July from 7pm onwards.

If you would like to meet other Forum members in real life, do come along!

We (Nygel and I) will provide labels if you want to put either your real or your forum name or both.

You don't have to -  it just makes it easier for people like me who can't remember names or  faces (there are a surprising number of us about, I have found).

It would be great to see lots of you there!

Have had a couple of foxes getting a bit too comfortable in our garden of late - digging up flower baskets, digging a hole under our fence and leaving a full sunflower, roots and all, dug up from next door in our garden and leaving little presents on our doorstep (and also, oddly, a water bottle).

Anyone have any tips on how to get rid off them (humanely)? Sure I have seen similar threads on here in the past..

Water for wildlife
In this heat, our wildlife from bees to birds and squirrels rely on our help. Please think about leaving out a tub of water for them… bees like a shallow dish with rounded stones for them to stand on while they drink.
Doesn’t  take much to help our local wildlife… get the kids to help!!!

many thanks x
