Southwark Council Parking Enforcement Corrupt Practices

Today, Southwark Council Parking Enforcement is illegally giving parking tickets to cars that are legally parked on Stradella Road at the end near to Halfmoon Lane.

Firstly, there are several bays at the beginning of Stradella Road that have no parking suspension sign.

Cars are parking legally and are being given parking tickets illegally.

Southwark Council Parking Enforcement officers have been made aware of this illegal behaviour and shown that they are no parking suspension notices in those bays and or in that part of the road; however, they continue to issues tickets illegally and cars continue to park in those bays unaware that they are (apparently) suspended because there is no notice to say such, in fact there is a notice to say 1hr parking between 8:30am and 6pm.

Further up Stradella Road, approximately 250+ metres, several cars were legally parked and there were no parking suspension notices; however, they were illegally issued with parking tickets.

Subsequently, an agent for Southwark Council was putting up parking suspension notices in this part of the road at around 1:30-2pm but only after the legally parked cars had been illegally issued with illegal car parking tickets to try and make it look legal.

This is clearly a deeply corrupt scam being undertaken by Southwark Council and its agents.

It has been separately reported to the police, local councillors and the local MP.

It will also be reported to Southwark Council, however, they are uncontactable until next week.

Similar corrupt and illegal behaviour by Southwark Parking enforcement officers was also clearly identified in Halfmoon Lane.

It is quite likely to have occurred in other adjacent roads.

Photographic and video evidence of these corrupt practices have been provided to the police to investigate and root out corruption in Southwark Council.

It seems that The South London Press has gone to the great recycling bin in the sky:

I’ve not seen the printed paper in years, admittedly.

FYI East Dulwich neighbours: I was in the middle of a cash withdrawl at the cashpoint at the Tesco Express on ED road (the one next to the Esso petrol station) when a man appeared beside me waving his hands over the screen and saying not to use it because it had just taken his card. He then dissapeared and I cancelled the withdrawl. No card was returned. It took me literally 30 seconds (max) to realise something wasn't right and 'freeze' the card on my mobile/banking app. I immediately got a txt message from my bank saying a transaction had just been declined, and then another. I logged in to app and £251 had already been taken. This all happened increadibly quickly - the whole incident from first encounter to money being taken and me freezing card was probably around 3 minutes. The guy must have somehow seen me put my PIN number in. It's possible there was some kind of card skmming involved, but I don't know for sure. The man was around 5ft 6/7, black and wearing a covid-type face mask. I don't remember what clothes he was wearing. I got the feeling (mainly from his voice and eyes) that he wasn't young - maybe mid-30s to mid-40s (but I can't be sure). Obviously I repoted to police.

Brockwell Lido - in a miserable state
Hello, first of all apologies if this is not the right space.

In short, I love going to Brockwell lido, it’s never been kept very tidy, but this year a limit has been reached. It’s ming: around the pool and in the changing rooms (one picture attached to give you the gist).

I have taken pictures, sent complaints to fusion and even wrote to local MP.

Is anyone else having same experience? Is there anything more i can do?

thanks in advance

Hello,

I was just wanting to get a general idea of how people in the area felt about the idea of a small indoor market opening locally. Is it something people would be interested in?

My husband and I have lived in ED for almost 20 years and have a local business, and just thinking into the future.. I thought East Dulwich Forum would be a great place to start some market research.

The space would have 8-14 small market stalls for local businesses, along with a cafe and a couple of permanent fixtures as well.

Please do let me know your thoughts!

Have just been rudely woken up by a scam artist who must have knocked on my door 100 times...

Description: late 20's-early 30's, London accent, lightly tanned skin, around 5"6 broad chested and overweight, light brown/dark cream coloured jacket and dark trousers, trainers.

Looks and sounds like he'd just come out of prison.

Claimed to be "working with the builders down the road" clearing their garden - despite there being no work done on our street at present!

Quickly became rude and abusive when his pathetic ruse was called out. An unpleasant turd in human form.

Have informed 101 who couldn't seem more disinterested.

Warn any vulnerable friends/relatives I guess.

We live in East Dulwich and often to go Rye Lane. I know people say there are good restaurants near Rye Lane.

Does anyone have recommendations for good places for lunch or dinner?

We like Manze for pie & mash at lunch. And I've been to Peckham Bazaar in the past, which was excellent.

Thanks!

As if the traffic chaos caused by the Council's road works in Grove Vale and Dulwich Village was not enough, be prepared for a summer of disruption due to the renewal of gas pipes affecting Lordship Lane, East Dulwich Road, Peckham Rye and associated streets.  Nothing from the Council by way of mitigation, as usual no doubt extremely relaxed about the traffic congestion likely to ensue. We meanwhile will have to ensure endless delays as the buses are snarled up with temporary traffic lights taking ages to change on single phase sequences. All the more maddening when there is often no sense of urgency about completing the works.

This comes courtesy of the Friends of Peckham Rye but needs to be circulated widely.

I just had some food at Chilli & Garlic, a new place on Zenoria Street. I had the chicken meal bowl which was really tasty. It’s super fresh, healthy, generous portions and really good value. They have various salad, wrap and mezze options. A few tables to sit in, or takeaway. The staff are really nice too and they’re open late. Thoroughly recommend.

Great news! Peckham Rye station to reclaim its public square by next year!
Demolition of the crappy dishevelled shopping arcade in front of Peckham Rye station is going ahead, and by end next year there will be a public square on Peckham's main shopping street. This is excellent!

Hopefully it unlocks vision and funding for an upgrade to the station itself for lifts, accessibility etc.

Just a quick question-

We’re on Crystal Palace Road, backing onto Darrell Road, about midway between The Great Exhibition and The Actress, and both my daughters (late teens/early twenties) are complaining about an intermittent, very high frequency noise that they find very uncomfortable. It’s worse for the older one as she’s trying to study for the finals of her degree coming up in May, and she’s already having hospital treatment for an ear condition. The sound can even be heard from indoors with the windows closed.

Neither my wife or I can hear it but it’s been going on for a few days now and I wonder if it’s one of those ultrasonic cat/dog/fox repellents, maybe connected to a movement sensor, that only registers with animals and younger people with much more sensitive hearing?

If that is the case would you mind turning it off please as it’s causing a very real problem.

Many thanks.

My neighbours across the road are not using their food waste bin - I presume they just put food waste in their normal bin! Whereas I always use my food waste bin and it’s regularly filled up.

Walking last Friday early evening anywhere near where the bottom end of Lordship Lane meets the Goose Green roundabout, one would have been directly confronted - as I was - with this scene:

Outside the East Dulwich Tavern an impenetrable phalanx of pushing yobs, shouty louts and selfish yahoos pressed outward from the open doors of this establishment, past the curtilage (the land in front of and owned by the business), all across the public right of way, to the kerbside. This was the situation all the way along, end to end. I watched as passersby, old people, children, parents with buggies, people just going about their business, were forced by these booze-sucking bellowing scumbags onto the road - where, at that hour, traffic rushed endlessly off the roundabout.

We have, I realised, somehow become so used to this revolting spectacles as to believe it to be inevitable. It is not. This is why I'm dropping this post. Enough really is enough. This roiling boozy blockade represents a total failure by all the responsible authorities - the licencing authority, for example - but most of all (yet once more, again, as ever), by Southwark Council. Two very different comparisons to give you some perspective:

1. The Kings Head pub on the corner of Albermarle and Stafford Streets, London SW1. Here too, patrons like to drink and chat outside on a warm evening - why should they not. But here, on the latter side a line marks the curtilage on the pavement. Drinkers remain, respectfully, in good order, within the line, watched, quietly and carefully, by a security guard. I wager good money this arrangement is a condition of this pub's licence.

2. The Blue Brick is a cafe in the quiet backstreets of East Dulwich, on the corners of Fellbrigg and Shawbury Roads. Until a few months ago, about half its covers were tables out on the pavement. They bothered nobody. Oh! But they extended all of several centimetres too far into the footpath, so into fearless action swang Southwark Council officers - and now these tables are gone. Result, eh?

"Well you see," some wiseacre said to me, "There needs to be a complaint." Not actually true, but for sure this is all too often how local authorities get pushed to do what they should be doing. Hard to think why a complaint trumps, say (and god forbid!) a child being injured on the road. In which circumstance, of course!, Southwark would swing into noisy, virtue-signalling, belated action. But in any case let this post be considered a big, very definite COMPLAINT about this prolonged abuse of our public right of way. I invite readers who agree with me to add their voices. Oh, and all those wee local ward councillors might get off their chufties, defy their party managers, and actually help sort this scandal out.

Thanks for reading,

Lee Scoresby

Many moons ago, ED  forum members used to meet up on a regular basis (I think monthly) in a different local.pub each time to get to know each other and to have a chat over a drink.

To help people like me who are rubbish at remembering names and faces, labels were provided!

A space was reserved in the pub each time.

If anyone would be interested in this (or else thinks it's a very bad idea!) , please either post on here or PM me.

The ED demographic has greatly changed, and many of those original forum members have moved out of the area, so possibly this may no longer work for various reasons.

My partner Nygel and I are happy to arrange the first one, but hopefully other people might step up to help after that, as we couldn't undertake to arrange them all on a regular basis, though we are  happy to take turns.

Earlier tonight, around 10pm (Monday 22 April), I saw a bright, small fireball come straight down from the sky and seemingly land in the near distance. I’d estimate it landed somewhere around Beauval Road/Lordship Lane/Goodrich/Landcroft Rd or thereabouts.

Googling meteorites I also discovered tonight was due to be the height of the Lyrid meteor shower over UK.

Did anyone else see anything/capture it on door cams/ dash cams? Or better still find the meterorite?!

Janda Diner's "invisible rice"... for PECAN foodbank
Just seen a post online about Janda Diner, the Malaysian restaurant on Rye Lane. They're offering an "invisible rice" side dish for £3.50. Whoever orders it gets absolutely nothing - because the money is donated to PECAN, a food bank that serves people in need in Southwark.

It's a witty and much-needed way to raise money for PECAN's important work. Mr Bao did something similar last year, I understand. Well done, Janda Diner!

Now that we have sadly lost several of the local and localish  places to buy plants, can anybody recommend a good nursery which is reasonably near and has a good selection of shrubs?

Or alternatively a good place to buy plants online (though  I would rather see what I am buying, as I've had bad experiences in the past when buying plants online).

I need something urgently which is evergreen and prickly and will grow quickly to fill a shady  corner space at the back of my garden where fences have become bare and cats are climbing  over and waiting for birds to come to the feeders 😭

I'm thinking a Mahonia. It doesn't actually have thorns, but the leaves are prickly.

Alternatively, is there some other way of deterring the cats without harming them (I like cats!) I don't want to use anything like spikes or barbed wire.

If this is in the wrong section, admin, please move!
